Little Cypress-Mauriceville cruises past Vidor

VIDOR - The Little Cypress-Mauriceville basketball team could feel the pressure from being on the road Friday night.

The Bears knew just how much was on the line as they faced the Pirates in a pivotal District 20-4A contest, but they showed no sign of hesitation in defeating Vidor 62-45.

The victory places LC-M and Vidor in a tie for the third and final playoff spot in the district.

"It was a must-win," LC-M coach Darin Harley said. "We had to win the game, or we didn't give ourselves much of a chance. Now, we're right back in it. We're tied for third. We have to just take care of our business, and I think we'll be in good shape."

LC-M (16-9 and 3-3) had control of much of the contest as it took a 34-19 lead into the half, and led by 15 second-half points from forward Tyler James, the Bears held the pace the rest of the night.

Looking and waiting is what the Bears did offensively throughout the contest, as they patiently passed the ball around the perimeter until they found the best shot.

And it worked to perfection.

James finished with 17 points, while center Cameron Spencer scored 13, and forward Seth Harley added 12 to give the Bears three players in double figures.

"We were patient in the half court, and I think that made the difference in the game," Harley said. "We have a size advantage with most teams that we play - not all but most - and sometimes we're our own worst enemies in the way we shoot 3s. But we have to be able to pound the ball inside, and I think we did that tonight very effectively."

For the Pirates (10-14 and 3-3), it was the third consecutive loss after winning their first three district games. Vidor lost in overtime to Central last week and was blown out 71-27 by Ozen on Tuesday.

Star guard Noah Cole was the only Vidor player in double figures with 13 points, and the Pirates were outrebounded 35-15.

Vidor's next contest will be next Friday against Lumberton, which is 2-4 in district after losing to Ozen on Friday.

"We need to get back on a winning track," Vidor coach David English said. "We lost a tough one, and then we've gotten beat pretty soundly these last two games. So, we just need to get things back on track."

The Bears will play at Lumberton on Tuesday, and will be looking to avenge a loss they suffered against the Raiders earlier in the district season.

"That's another game that we have to go in focused," Harley said. "We weren't focused last time we played them, and they beat us and hats off to them. We have to go into their place into a hostile environment like here (Vidor) and perform the same way."

You could really see the carry over from the Ozen game for LCM they continued thier good play and if they can keep the same intensity than I say the only possible loss in round 2 will be at Ozen.

And yes that means beating Central when they come to the Bear Cave.

Vidor just has no help for the Amazing Noah........
