Guest abovetherim Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Paris Junior College may have two early signees this year. This week, Orlando Allen made the call to ink in November in Oklahoma and if things go just right, he may not be the only one to sign on the dotted line of a LOI. Teammate Brandon Ayers has just started to take some official visits and the athletic 6-foot-4, 170-pound redshirt freshman could commit if the right fit is found."Brandon went to Lamar last weekend and he's going to South Alabama this weekend," said Paris head coach Ross Hodge. "He liked it at Lamar. He and Kenny Dawkins were high school teammates and there's another kid that went to Holly Springs there too. He was surprised how nice it was."Ayers - the son of former Ole Miss standout Joe Ayers - is getting some interest this fall thanks to some impressive workouts in open gym. Adding to the intrigue is the fact he'll have three years of eligibility if he chooses to leave Paris after this season - he essentially missed all of last season due to injury and was granted a medical redshirt."There have been a lot of guys that have come out to see us and he's been playing pretty well in front of them," Hodge said nothing programs such as Arkansas-Little Rock and Georgia State are a couple that have been particularly intrigued. "He would have played for us last year but he got injured. He can really shoot it and he's athletic. And with the three years he's got left to play and if he has a good year, I think his stock will really rise."
Guest abovetherim Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 I heard Lamar is recruiting another junior college kid. The interesting thing here is his father played for Billy Tubbs. No, it wasn't at Lamar. I can't recall his name at the present time but I'm sure we'll be hearing it soon. I heard he really like his recruiting trip to Beaumont.I'm hopefully we can land a couple HS kids this year. At the same time, I understand why Roc wouldn't settle on a 2nd tier player and may feel the need to continue recruiting more experienced and older kids who out of HS were recruiting with the UT's, Baylor's, UH's, Kansas', Ole Miss, Memphis' of the world but discovered there may be a better fit at a school like Lamar. The prior paragraph is just my unprofessional opinion.
Guest abovetherim Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Roc is great at landing the kids that fall through the cracks. It's hard to find a lot about who Lamar is recruiting because the past few years I have covered Lamar and the numberous years I've followed the team all the recruiting websites have Lamar recruiting kids and Lamar ends up signing someone the "experts" haven't mentioned all year.
