From the Board of Regents Meetings in August:

Upon motion of Regent Adams, seconded by Regent Flores, with all regents

voting aye, it was ordered that the restoration of the Cardinal Stadium Press Box

to repair hurricane damage and correct structural and code problems is

approved, provided the total project budget does not exceed $1,500,000.

Is this the first step for starting football at Lamar?  There was no mention of football or women's softball at the meetings.

This is great news for Cardinal Stadium. The press box is the biggest eye-sore. Of course, there are several other issues with the facility but this is of highest priority. If a contractor would be willing to not make a huge profit on this project they could possibly land others which are in the planning stages around the university.

That thing looked horrible when we played Ozen there last Friday. It's crying shame that they've let that stadium get like that.  I can remember being a kid and rolling down the hill during football games. They need to seriously revamp that stadium

Scalp'em, I think the administration at Lamar is starting to listen to the community. In the next few years Lamar will either have a new stadium or Cardinal Stadium will have a complete renovation. Funny, I remember rolling down those same hills as a kid when dad took me to the Lamar games. It was so much fun going back then. Heck, I couldn't tell you how many people were at the games back then. As a kid, that wasn't important to me. Watching guys like Larry Haynes former Lamar QB was.

It is true that the stadium is run down but why shouldn't it be? Why waste millions in renovations and upkeep for a team that doesn't exist?

BISD was going to do some upgrades to it but that was lost in the bond issue from a couple of years ago. IF Lamar decides to get back into the football business, I am sure that the stadium will be upgraded or rebuilt.

    • Virginia has same day voter registration. A person can literally walk in to the voting location, register and then vote. So the premise that Virginia might be stopping people with a legitimate right to vote is nonsense. From what I gather in the news report, assuming that the ones I have read are correct, the people that were removed, filled out a drivers license registration and marked that they were not an American citizen. Could the person have made a mistake bychecking the box incorrectly? Although unlikely it is certainly possible. That same person who was removed can go into the same voting location where he would have voted and again, complete a voter registration and then vote.  That went into the Supreme Court’s decision.  If such a person votes by registering on election day, he fills out a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots are not originally counted and or not counted unless needed. For example….  Statewide there are 500 provisional ballots cast. A person wins the election by 4,000 votes. That would be no need to count the provisional ballots as it will not matter. Then let’s say there are 5,000 provisional ballots cast in the election. One candidate then wins the election by only 1,500 votes. In that case, the election could definitely swing on those provisional ballots. The state will then investigate each person to make sure they live at the correct address listed and that they are American citizens. If these things are correct, the vote will then be counted. Safe Harbor is not untillll…… I think December 17th this year so there will be six weeks to verify the provisional ballots if needed. The purging of the names of people who checked a state form saying that they were not an American citizen, will not stop that same person from voting.
