KFDM COOP Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Astros to name Cooper permanent managerThe Astros will hold a press conference this afternoon to announce that Cecil Cooper will officially become the Astros’ manager.Cooper, who joined the Astros as bench coach at the start of the 2005 season, had served as interim manager since Phil Garner was fired last month. The interim tag will be removed today, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.The Astros announced a press conference for 3:30 p.m. today at Minute Maid Park.Cooper took over for Garner on Aug. 27, and the team has gone 13-15 under his watch.
