The Cardinals begin three-game home stand Friday against Central Arkansas at 7 p.m.

HOUSTON - Rice University jumped out to a 4-0 first half lead in the first half and cruised to a 5-0 win over Lamar University in non-conference soccer action Friday night at the Rice Track/Soccer Stadium.

Lamar (0-8) returns to Beaumont for a three-game home stand starting with Central Arkansas Friday at 7 p.m., which is the Southland Conference opener for both schools and the Cardinals' first-ever SLC contest. Rice improved to 6-3-1.

Clory Martin started the scoring early for the Owls, scoring at 2:06 of the first half to give Rice a quick 1-0 lead. Shelley Wong picked up an assist on the goal. Wong also assisted on Korey Taylor's goal at 13:50. That was Taylor's first goal of the season and was on a shot from about 12 yards out.

Erin Scott scored on a pass off of a corner kick at 15:50 to make the score 3-0. Martin centered the corner kick to the front of the net and Katelyn Ostendorf passed the ball to Scott, who found the back of the net. Taylor added her second goal of the game at 19:29 on a break away to make the score 4-0 at intermission.

Scott netted her second goal of the game and the only score of the second half at 70:28. Martin added her second assist on the goal.

Rice totaled 42 shots, including 19 on goal, while limiting Lamar to no shots. The Owls attempted 12 corner kicks. Rice committed 13 fouls to Lamar's seven.

Kelsie Binetti, a freshman from Lumberton, had 14 saves in goal for the Cardinals.
