Lamar Volleyball Blows Past UTPA 3-0

Lady Cards extend win steak to nine games

BEAUMONT - Behind a dominant performance by setter Adrianne Meengs, the Lamar University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over the University of Texas-Pan American at McDonald Gym on Tuesday night.

The Lady Cardinals improved to 13-7 on the season with their ninth straight win, while UTPA fell to 7-13 on the year.

The Lady Cards opened the match strong with a balanced attack led by Molli Abel's five kills, while Destiny Mason, Meengs and Kaci Brewer each added four kills. As a team Lamar hit .421 for the match, while the Lady Broncs hit just .118 en route to a 30-22 win for LU.

In game two the Lady Cards continued to play well offensively, led by seven kills from Mason. Lamar hit .317 while their defense held UTPA to -.056, with five blocks as the Lady Cards won 30-18.

In game three the Lady Cards held off a late UTPA run to close out the match with a 30-24 win. Courtney Mitchell and Meengs led the way for Lamar with six kills apiece, while Mason added 16.

For the match Meengs had a double-double knocking down 13 kills with a .706 hitting percentage, passing out 44 assists with six blocks. Mason also added a double-double for Lamar with 16 kills and 14 digs, while Andrea Hamilton also registered 14 digs.

As a team the Lady Cardinals hit .336 for the match while posting nine blocks. Pan American hit just .048 for the match and had six blocks.

The Lady Broncs were led by Kellie Phillips' eight kills, while Chelsea Blakely passed out 23 assist.

Lamar will be back in action on Saturday, when they host the McNeese State Cowgirls at 3 p.m. in McDonald Gym.
