Guest TravelingBandsman Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 It's supposed to open up for the 2008-2009 school year which means it may field a team this year. What will this do to the districts already in place? What will the Baytown sizes be?
Guest ECBucFan Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 The projection is for Sterling to remain 5A, and Memorial and Lee to be 4A. This is still in play because there are "grandfathering" issues being addressed at the moment.
hssportsfan Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Depending on the grandfathering outcome I heard that Memorial might be a 3A to start. I look for Lee to be history in the future and Sterling and Memorial to be the two high school system in Baytown.
Guest TravelingBandsman Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 what exactly is grandfathering, and will it just start with a Freshmen class or more than that.
Guest ECBucFan Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Grandfathering is when a student does not have to switch schools because it would cause a split among siblings in a family. In other words, you would not have a Junior attending one school and his Freshman little brother attending another.
gary-us-bonds Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 "Grandfathering" is like when a guy in the NFL gets to keep his one bar facemask, because he was there before the rule was put in place that made it illegal to have one bar facemasks. In other words, if the student already goes to Lee, then he will be grandfathered in next year to stay at Lee if he/she so desires, regardless of where he/she is zoned.
hssportsfan Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Another factor in the grandfathering is if a child's parents have alot of money tied up in an organization (Stars, Cheerleading etc..) and not wanting to have to switch schools and lose all of that investment. But panama, won't this only affect juniors to be, not just anyone who wants to stay?
TradinUp BH Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Most new schools start off with Freshman and sophmores and don't play varsity level sports until the second or third year. if there are two 4A schools in Baytown, it would split of several districts. It will interesting to see.
Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Glad we might not be playing Lee in the future ;D
Guest FPHS 78 Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 just curious.why does baytown NEED another highschool?
Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 just curious.why does baytown NEED another highschool?projected growth i guess, I personally have no clue, i would think 2 is enough there.
hssportsfan Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 My understanding is that Lee is over capacity and Sterling is right at capacity. They should have torn Lee down back in 86 or so when it burned and built a new school out by Stallworth. Had RSS be a 9th and 10th grade campus and a new 11th and 12th grade campus.
Guest ECBucFan Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 just curious.why does baytown NEED another highschool?Explosive growth. The area north of I-10 up Garth and Main is flat out booming. Also the area just South of I-10 down 146, too.
hssportsfan Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Lee was built in the mid to late 1920's. So it is old.

Guest TravelingBandsman Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 From what I hear, Memorial and Sterling will be getting most of the area with Lee becoming smaller and smaller until it's disbanded all together. Would this happen and Sterling and Memorial just become the two AAAAA's
