retired76 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Its baseball anything can happen. I say Bears either in a 1 game and i say Bears in 3 games. But in a 1 game it puts more pressure on the Brenham Cubs. They are ranked 1 in the state and 6th in baseball america. So the Bears have nothing to lose. So more pressure on the Cubs in a 1 game series. Go Bulldogs!!!!!!
Lonewolf Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 It seems there is another factor you have not thought about and it has happened all year to all teams. I hate to say this but.....The men in BLUE will decide the game. I am not sure if you have heard about some of the calls. 1) A ball fielded in the coaches box is called fair by home plate and foul by 3rd base blue. 2) A diving catch where outfield blue calls no catch and home plate over rules 3) you can score on them, but Blue will change the K zone when it is in there favor. I will post a few comments from other web sites....you make the call. I know I have seen it Still I wish them the BEST!!!!!!

Gurka is good no doubt but watch this kid tonight, he signed with Panola, and he will be followed by Mire who signed with Mclenndon(Spelled wrong I am sure) and then if needed Rice university signee Harwood....... I told you guys Powell was tough, but PNG did what they have done all year and that is defensive blowups. I wasn't there.... Brenham Hardball H5AB Bronze Member Posts: 170 (5/11/06 7:59 am) Reply Re: png... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Errors...it was ruled that the bunt by Nuti was a hit. The error came on the sac fly to RF which scored the go ahead run and kept the bases loaded. Powell did a great job, not sure why they left him in. Probably not much depth. Hardball you need to get off your high horse. The Kid from PNG had the game under control all until the 6th inning when he struck out Gurka 3 times at one at bat. I was amazed to see how the strike zone got smaller that inning. I don't want to take anything from Brenham because they did hang in there. But the kid from PNG out pitched the other pitcher. But when the strike zone gets smaller and the kid has to throw 50 pitches in one inning yes there will be a homerun or two. The funny thing was after the score was 7-2 the strike zone open back open. Strike out one of the Brenham hitters on the same 3 pitches Gurka walked on earlier that inning. That is why I was wondering if you were at the same game I was at. Don't get me wrong Brenham did take advantage of it but it would have been fun to see what would have happen if the blue's strike zone wouldn't have gotten smaller that inning. Good luck to Brenham and PNG both are great teams and I really enjoyed the game. Oh this is a view from an outsider looking in. The strike zone did tighten up in the 6th inning. I was sitting behind home plate when Gurka was up and kept saying, 'where was that one'? I believe the game pivoted on that at bat towards the Cubs. But, as you said, the Cubs took advantage of it. The walk to Gurka was followed by a very nice bunt by soph 2b Nuti who hustled down the line to beat it out and then advanced on the throwing error. That coupled by the error in right field and the game was lost. Powell did one heck of a job keeping the Cubs off balance. I believe he was getting a bit tired by the beginning of the 6th, but gutted it out. Profs to Powell and the whole PNG staff. Excellent fans also. Love the game. Out! I thought Powell pitched an excellent game. I questioned why he was left in during the 6th. Shrinking strike zone or not, I will not be a part of second-guessing the umpiring, especially behind the plate. It usually all evens out. Powell kept PNG in the game and gave them a chance to win. The Cubs did what they had to do to win...what they have done all season. Second guessing the blue is like.............? You fill in the blank... Brenham may not like it but that game proved they are beatable... PNG was as solid as you could be against Brenham until the errors hit in the late innings... Not taking anything from the Cub's, they took advantage of miscues as any good team should... However let's face the facts; dropped ball, overthrow, and zone change is what decided the outcome... Calling it like I see it....You witnessed what I saw, pitches that were strikes all night for PNG for some reason changed... I heard numerous Brenham parents gasp and chuckle when an apparent strike was called a ball... Good luck to both teams tonight... Blue turned Cubbie Green in the bottom of the sixth. It was all in the master plan. A dropped ball, overthrow and zone change did not decide the outcome...the base hits and blast over the LC wall did. PNG should have make the necessary changes. That kid pitched a great game. Good luck to the Cubs in Game 2. You know baseball as well as I do......... Without the mental lapses committed by PNG the last two innings would have played out a little differently... More than likely that game sparked the Cub's... They now realize you have to bring your "A" game every-night... Adrenaline does amazing feats! If it was just Gurka, you guys have a weak argument, about the ump's calls. I wasn't there, but blaming the ump is little league. Make the adjustment, if the strike zone changes. It's that way at every level....plain and simple. Good luck to the Cubs.......hopefully the Bears can cross their path, during the playoffs. I would have to go look at the write up in the local paper to see if anymore did, but I think that was it. The big momentum swing was the throwing error by PNG. After that Steven Martin did his thing. Lonewolf Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Brenham is a very good team. But there are overrated. I know they are raked #1 in Texas and # 5 in the nation....but no way are they that good or our district 3A, 4A and 5A would be ranked also. They can be beat but they are a very good team. *** if anyone likes softball games you need to go watch, the boys have more cheers and sayings than any softball teams I have seen.
