Lamar Continues Three-Game Home Stand by Hosting Northwestern State Sunday

The Lady Cardinals lost 2-0 to Central Arkansas Friday and the Lady Demons tied McNeese 1-1.

BEAUMONT - After putting together one of its best games of the season, Lamar University will look to build on that momentum as Northwestern State visits Cardinal Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m. in Southland Conference women's soccer action.

Lamar (0-9-0), who lost its SLC opener to visiting Central Arkansas 2-0 Friday, continues its season-long three-game home stand by hosting Northwestern State. The Demons are 7-3-1 overall and are coming off a 1-1 tie at McNeese State Friday night in Lake Charles in their SLC opener.

The Lady Cardinals out shot their opponent for the first time all season, attempting 13 shots to UCA's 11. However, the Sugar Bears had a six to five advantage in shots on goal.

Beth Squires, a freshman from Hurst, came off the bench to lead Lamar with two shots on goal. Stefani Turner, a freshman from Corpus Christi, had two shots, including one on goal. Squires leads the team with 13 shots and five shots on goal. Turner is second on the team with nine shots and Aline Pugliesi, a junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, is third with eight shots.

Goalkeeper Kelsie Binetti, a freshman from Lumberton, ranks third in the SLC in total saves with 66 and is third in saves per game at 8.25. She is seventh in save percentage at .606.

Lamar is averaging 6.2 shots per game compared to 30.2 by its opponents and the Lady Cardinals have a .330 shots on goal percentage compared to .562 by their opponents. Lamar has attempted 19 corner kicks while its opponents have attempted 74 and the Lady Cardinals have committed 48 fouls to 83 by their opponents.

Northwestern State leads the in nearly every offensive statistical category. The Lady Demons are first in points with 76 (6.91 pg), goals (28), goals per game (2.55), assists (20) and assists per game (1.82).

 

The Lady Demons' Erin Hebert leads the SLC in points (20), points per game (1.82), goals (8), goals per game (0.82) and is tied for first in assists (4).
