Guest TravelingBandsman Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 A while back, there was a lot of call from the Kenefick city council to create their own high school. If anyone doesn't know, Kenefick is a small town to the northeast of Dayton along Hwy 1008. The idea has sense become stagnant and may have fallen through but it got me thinking what would have happened.Dayton has about 1400 in the high school, and I'd say about 300-600 are from Kenefick. That would make Kenefick right off at least a AA. It may even drop Dayton down to a AAA. I guess we'll never know.
LionHeart Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 If dayton moved down to a AAA...they would be very dominant....well thats what i think...so what would Kenefick be called??
the wise one Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 could have been good for dayton could have been bad how many athletes would they have lost to the other school? another words do most of the good players live in kedifeck (sp) or not
Guest whoabroncos09 Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 i doubt that will ever happen.seriously...i just can never see them getting their own school.it would take a bunch of people out of our high school.but i would NEVER want that to happen.
Guest TravelingBandsman Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Most likely it would called just Kenefick High School. I'm not sure if they would stay in DISD or make a KISD. I would doubt it and so it would probably be referred to as Dayton Kenefick, but I'm not sure. The players for Dayton are scattered all throughout Dayton. I know the Dugats were from south Dayton, but there really isn't a definite area.
Guest whoabroncos09 Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 if you think...that would be kinda like old river getting their own school.
Guest TravelingBandsman Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 if you think...that would be kinda like old river getting their own school.Old River would be small if they had a high school, most likely A. There's about 100-150 of Dayton's students there. That's if its the part of Dayton's school district there. If they took the part of Old River that Barbers Hill controlled too, then they'd probably be AA.

tvc184 Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 Can a part of a school district force the forming another independent school district? In effect they would be deannexing part of the district to form another. If that is not legal by Texas state law, then it is a moot point as far as an independent Kenefick high school. If the Dayton Independent School District chooses to make another high school, then that is their option. Beaumont has gone from six, down to two and then back up to three. Port Arthur went from three to one. I have no knowledge of anything that goes on politically inside of DISD but I don't believe that they will voluntarily split a 4A school with 1,400 students down to two 3A schools or maybe a 2A and a 3A. It just won't happen as there is no point.
Guest TravelingBandsman Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 That's what I think. Dayton is too small to worry about building 2 high schools in the district. While Dayton's school district is pretty large, we don't have a student population that is relative. However, recent residential enlargement moving out from Huffman and Mont Belvieu will eventually merge at Dayton making Dayton's student enrollment skyrocket. In only a decade, you may very well see a 5A Dayton.
