hockeyfan Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 http://www.wildcattershockey.com/news/archive/index.html?article_id=23CHARLOTTE, NC (Oct. 20, 2007) – The power play unit scored four third period goals and opened up a close game for the Wildcatters as they cruised to their first victory of the season Saturday night in Charlotte 6-2.With the Wildcatters grasping the same 2-1 lead they held much of the contest, veteran John McNabb found the back of the net at 11:03 of the third to give the Wildcatters their first two-goal lead of the game. Defenseman Cleve Kinley continued to prove himself an offensive force from the Wildcatters blue line as he added his second goal in as many games one minute later to bring the score to 4-1.Dan Welch added a goal and McNabb would score again to round out the scoring for the Wildcatters.The ‘Catters jumped to an early lead as Troy Riddle scored his second goal of the season on a breakaway just 53 seconds into the contest. Riddle’s breakaway was one of four such opportunities for Texas in the game.Charlotte would counter with a goal at 13:03 of the first on a 5-on-3 power play, but the Wildcatters would regain the lead with an even-strength goal by Danick Bouchard at 15:01 of the second period.The game would remain a 2-1 Wildcatters advantage until midway through the third before the Wildcatters power play would change the tone of the game.“We played well tonight,†said Head Coach Malcolm Cameron, “our guys worked hard and were able to exploit some mistakes they made.â€Much of that exploitation came on the power play, as Texas scored four times in ten chances with the man advantage.“I’m pleased with the outcome of the game,†said Cameron, “But more than that, I’m pleased with how hard we worked and the way we followed our game plan.
