Tiger90 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 There was a lot of discussion about realignment and the two division concept. It was hard to tell where the UIL stands on this. There are some good parts and some bad parts to this issue. The response so far has been about half and half. It was discussed to try this in one conference. The policy committee moved to discuss in the full legislative council on Monday morning. 2:58 Those two areas should be addressed before any major changes are made. I'm getting the feeling it won't happen this realignment. Our area just needs two 3A districts instead of one super district.
KFDM COOP Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 Not yet. Still waiting on my contact to let me know. May be later today.

bronco1 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 UIL Legislative Council Meeting ResultsMedia Contact: Kim RogersPhone: 512) 471-5883Fax: (512) 471-6589Email: [email protected]Date: 10/22/2007FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEAUSTIN, TX— The current system for football alignments will remain in place andsuperintendents will decide whether or not to add a fourth team to the playoffs in allteam sports for Conference 4A after decisions handed down by the UIL Legislative Councilon Monday. After extensive discussion of a split conference alignment for football, the UILLegislative Council voted to survey school superintendents after the 2008-2010 realignmentis released this spring to determine whether or not to move forward with the plan for the2010-2012 alignment period. The Council instructed the UIL staff to place the item on asurvey and include a scenario of the split conference alignment using the 2008 enrollmentfigures so schools could see how the split conferences would have affected things thisrealignment period.“The Legislative Council had a great deal of interest in the split conference alignmentplan for football, but felt now was not the time to move forward with it, especially sincewe are currently in a realignment year,†said UIL Assistant Director and Director ofAthletics Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “By using the 2008 enrollment figures to create thesample alignment, it gives everyone a chance to look at this plan with fresh numbers and anew perspective. Giving superintendents across the state a chance to weigh in on thisconcept provides a more comprehensive look at the way our schools feel about it and we’reencouraged by the efforts and wisdom of the Council.â€Conference 4A superintendents will decide if a fourth team is added to the playoffs in thesports of baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball after the itemis placed on a referendum ballot this spring. The results of the referendum ballot arebinding, and will take effect in the 2008-09 school year.Additionally, the Legislative Council amended the penalty for a positive steroid testresult. In June 2007, the Council passed a penalty structure relating to the statewiderandom steroid testing program that the UIL is implementing this school year. At thattime, the penalty for a first time positive steroid test was a suspension from competitionfor a minimum of 30 calendar days. That penalty was amended, and if approved by theCommissioner of Education, will now be a suspension for a minimum of 30 school days ofcompetition in all UIL athletic activities for a first positive test. A student mustundergo an exit steroid test and receive a negative result in order to restore theireligibility. In other action, the Legislative Council determined that all coaches who have been ejectedfrom a contest and have not had the ejection overturned by the UIL State ExecutiveCommittee must complete the National Federation of State High School AssociationsFundamentals of Coaching Course. The course must also be completed by all first yearcoaches and any coach who is not a full-time employee of the school district. The following items were approved by the Legislative Council, and take effect August 1,2008 if approved by the Commissioner of Education:* Creating a specific medium ensemble category for Mariachi;* Increasing officials fees in all sports;* Expanding the Conference 4A soccer alignment from 32 to 64 districts.
KFDM COOP Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 The new plan that was being talked about will have to wait until the 2010 Relignment.
bronco1 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 The new plan that was being talked about will have to wait until the 2010 Relignment. Yeah looks like it. Looking at the wording here it seems like they may make several changes in the new district realignment. They want School administrators to see how it might have worked out for them with the new numbers.
KFDM COOP Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 Supers will get to vote on it this Feb. Now we'll just wait and see how the Relignment turns out in Feb.

bulldawg64 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 COOP WHAT ABOUT THE CURRENT 22-4A DISTRICT> THINK IT WILL STAY INTACT FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS?
Tiger90 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 That sucks for the small schools. This year KV and HF, the supposed small schools, have been doing very well in football and my understanding was this was a football only idea (?). In our area we just need smaller districts.
KFDM COOP Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 COOP WHAT ABOUT THE CURRENT 22-4A DISTRICT> THINK IT WILL STAY INTACT FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS? Hard to say. I predict Dayton goes back and Barbers Hill comes over.
