Guest abovetherim Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Meengs Earns Second SLC Offensive Player of the Week Honor Sophomore recognized for impressive performances against Texas State and UTA Oct. 23, 2007 BEAUMONT - After helping the Lamar University volleyball team to a pair of wins against Texas State and UT-Arlington last week, setter Adrianne Meengs was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Meengs, a sophomore from Friendswood, Texas, started the weekend strong against Texas State, passing out 46 assists, knocking down 14 kills, with five digs and three blocks while hitting .219. On Saturday she passed out 44 assists in three games, a 14.6 assist per game average, while adding seven kills and seven digs with a .312 hitting percentage. For the week she averaged a double-double in kills and assists, passing out 90 assists (12.86 apg) and knocking down 21 kills (3.00 kpg) for the Lady Cardinals. In addition to her impressive kills and assist numbers, she had a .250 hitting percentage, 12 digs, and four blocks to earn the second player of the week award of her career. She currently ranks third in the SLC with 11.24 assists per game and ranks fourth among Lady Cardinals players in kills with 2.17 per game. In addition to her offensive prowess, she has also been solid defensively, averaging 1.92 digs per game. Meengs and the Lady Cardinals are 9-0 in the SLC and 18-7 overall, and are on a 14 match winning streak. The 14 straight wins is the longest win streak in 30 years, second only to the 1977 squad that won 19 straight, while the 9-0 start to conference play is the best since the 2001 opened with nine straight.
