piratevillain Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 Anyone know the starters coming back next year on both sides of the ball? I'm hearing Cree Simmons little brother is gonna be the QB next season from what I've heard. Quote
Cougtalk Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 I know yall should go watch Liberty Hill film, Jesus that's a scary offense if you execute like them. that Muddle huddle is so effective. Just my 2 cents. piratevillain and dme1111 2 Quote

Just my 2 cents. They can execute like them all they want. Unless they switch personnel with LH they’ll probably have similar results to their current ones. Vidor’s slot-t would be harder to defend than LH’s IMO they had the same personnel. Easy to see how they knocked off Carthage in the semis a couple of years ago. piratevillain 1 Quote

dj Posted January 12, 2021 Report Posted January 12, 2021 .It starts with the coaching. There o/line is so discipline.knows who to block on every play. And uses there leverage to there advantage.i truly believe our coaches in this area are not on the level as schools in houston, dallas,, east Texas. Its not always abt money !! Its abt been prepared, and making adjustments.i really can't see any team in setx as much I would to see it happening winning a title soon.these teams dominate at the line of scrimmage and play sound defense. Boneyard Boys Posted January 13, 2021 Report Posted January 13, 2021 Should be interesting to see what they can do next year with an extremely young team. All I can think of coming back on D is J. Smith and a couple of linebackers, on O you have 2 RBs and a couple of linemen. I still think they make the playoffs and I wouldn’t be surprised if they finish in better position than last years team. This past season was disappointing to me and it turns out that the 2019 team was a much more well rounded Pirate squad. That team would have done well in 4A and I think this young 2021 team will do just fine. I don’t see LCM or Lumberton turning it around that fast with new coaches coming in, so I think 3rd or 4th place will be in play for Vidor next season. piratevillain 1 Quote

Yeah, I could only think of a few coming back on both sides of the ball. But that 2019 was much more well rounded team compared to this team last season. I think we can still compete in district for the 2-4 spots. We have a good non district schedule that will prepare us, barring any hurricanes.😐 Quote

Just my 2 cents. My nephew showed me some of their film before the 2019 season when Mathews went during the spring that year. Which is when we switched up to the "hurry up" Slot T. But LH is the real deal running the T, Vidor just hasn't had the stable of RBs to run it the past few seasons, but we've had the size and speed for the o-line. So really the personnel hasn't been there really. Quote

I think that’s the difference when vidor was successful it was completely QB driven. Need to make it completely blocking driven. 42 ran through some holes that a literal car could have gone through when they ran one of their power plays. They put 5-6 blockers into a single gap to make that hole. it’s not just athletes. LH made me a believer that Slot T is more than just a gimmick. Hagar, jake94 and piratevillain 3 Quote

I noticed that LH didn't run their QB alot myself either and used their backs mostly for alot of their runs. But that offense is truly about blocking and schemes. It's a beautiful thing when it's run properly like how they do it. This year when we went to the pistol set, and then back under to the Slot T, made me realize that's our bread and butter, but Vidor does primarily use the QB alot as the runner alot in years passed. Last summer, I asked my nephew and his cousin who also was on the team in 2019 how many plays they have for that type of offense, he said over 40 plays, which surprisingly shocked me. But alot of coaches do call the Slot T the devil, cause it's hard to prepare for and defend, if ran properly especially like Liberty Hill executed every year and makes deep runs with it. Quote

That’s what really stood out to me when I watched the playoff game they played before playing Crosby and when they played Crosby. Well coached team. Quote

An interesting part of the puzzle is how did the JV & 9th Grade do this year? Success there implies, at the very least, potential. Quote

piratevillain Posted February 3, 2021 Author Report Posted February 3, 2021 I'm curious who's coming back for the backfield for Pirates. I know Sepulvado (Jr.) is coming back... but what about the big full back Watson is returning? Quote

Dang, that's good to know, I was thinking he was junior for some reason. Hopefully he puts on some more weight this off-season to fill out that tall body of his and be even a bigger threat in the backfield this next season. Quote
