Guest abovetherim Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Oct. 24, 2007 LamarCardinals.com had a chance to sit down with Nicole Aiken and listened to her thoughts and views on her basketball adventure in America. Nicole comes from May pen, Jamaica and the slender 6'2 athletic forward continues to show improvement in all phases of her game. Likewise, Nicole is a world class netball player and has played many key games on the international level. LC: What do you miss the most when you are away from Jamaica? NA: I miss my family the most. LC: What area of your game are you trying to improve on the most during pre-season work-outs? NA: Attacking the basket and being more of an offensive threat. LC: Your roommate is Nikki Williams, what has she taught you about her Louisiana "Cajun" culture and has she cooked any of those dishes for you? NA: Nothing! She doesn't cook because she doesn't know how. But I've learned that Crawfish is the big thing in Louisiana. LC: If a person got to know you really well, what one thing would surprise them the most? NA: My overall personality. LC: What is your most prized possession and why? NA: My Bible because it teaches me the way in which I should walk and talk. LC: Just before coming to Lamar, you and your family went through a hurricane, give us a description of the troubles you encountered with winds clocked at 160 mph. NA: I was really scared. I was in the living room when I heard the winds lifting the roof and we had to rush to the other side of the house. We had very strong breeze that damaged all the crops in the yard. LC: Who has been your role model growing up? NA: My mother. LC: What is your favorite music style and favorite singer? NA: Gospel and my favorite singer is my past high school choir. LC: What is the best advice that you would give an incoming freshman international student athlete to Lamar University? NA: Lamar is beautiful and its environment is conducive for learning. The staff creates an atmosphere that makes you want to be here, to ensure that when you come here, you are ready to work hard. LC: As an international netball player, you have had many occasions to travel throughout the world, so what is your favorite location to visit and play? NA: New Zealand.http://lamarcardinals.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/102507aab.html
