Consecutive Playoff Appearances

In preparation for the upcoming playoffs...  I went over the numbers of consecutive playoff appearances across the state and here's where we stand going in to the 2007 tournament.  Southeast Texas is represented well.  Newton currently has the longest playoff appearance streak of any team in Southeast Texas in history...

484 teams qualified for the playoffs in 2006 (1 consecutive year)

286 teams have qualified in 2005 and 2006 (2 consecutive years)

198 teams have qualified every year since 2004 (3 consecutive years)

141 teams have qualified every year since 2003 (4 consecutive years)

110 teams have qualified every year since 2002 (5 consecutive years)

80 teams have qualified every year since 2001 (6 consecutive years)

(13 currently have a streak of 6): Alpine, Amarillo Palo Duro, Anson, Gilmer, Kennedale, Longview, Paradise, Rusk, San Antonio Sam Houston, Sunray, Texarkana, Wall, Chilton

67 teams have qualified every year since 2000 (7 consecutive years)

(10 currently have a streak of 7): Denton Ryan, Harlingen, Houston Lamar, Idalou, McCamey, Pearland, Port Isabel, Rice Consolidated, Southlake Carroll, Sweetwater

57 teams have qualified every year since 1999 (8 consecutive years)

(15 currently have a streak of 8): Abilene, Allen, Barbers Hill, Bellville, Corsicana, Dallas Lincoln, Everman, Gunter, Lubbock Monterey, Midland Greenwood, Nazareth, Pflugerville Connally, San Marcos, Stratford, Whitewright

42 teams have qualified every year since 1998 (9 consecutive years)

(9 currently have a streak of 9): Blanco, China Spring, Crandall, Euless Trinity, Lufkin, Marlin, Roscoe, Shiner, Sinton

33 teams have qualified every year since 1997 (10 consecutive years)

(6 currently have a streak of 10): Corrigan-Camden, Kerrville Tivy, La Vernia, New Braunfels, Perryton, Plano East

27 teams have qualified every year since 1996 (11 consecutive years)

(8 currently have a streak of 11): Aledo, Dayton, De Soto,  El Paso Riverside, Ennis, Nederland, Smithson Valley, Wolfforth Frenship

19 teams have qualified every year since 1995 (12 consecutive years)

(5 currently have a streak of 12): East Chambers, Highland Park, Omaha Pewitt, The Woodlands, Windthorst

14 teams have qualified every year since 1994 (13 consecutive years)

(4 currently have a streak of 13): Abilene Wylie, Dallas Skyline, Galena Park North Shore, Newton

10 teams have qualified every year since 1993 (14 consecutive years)

(1 currently has a streak of 14): Celina

9 teams have qualified every year since 1992 (15 consecutive years)

(1 currently has a streak of 15): Refugio

8 teams have qualified every year since 1991 (16 consecutive years)

(1 currently has a streak of 16): Katy

7 teams have qualified every year since 1990 (17 consecutive years)

(4 currently have a streak of 17): Dallas Carter, Dallas Kimball, La Marque, Waxahachie

3 teams have qualified every year since 1988 (19 consecutive years)

(1 currently has a streak of 19): Austin Westlake

2 teams have qualified every year since 1985 (22 consecutive years)

(1 currently has a streak of 22): Corpus Christi Calallen         

1 team has qualified every year since 1977 (30 consecutive years): Houston Yates

As bad as I hate to admit it, Nederland has done a more than impressive job making it to the playoffs that many years in a row.

It is a very big possibility that either Dayton's or Nederland's streak will be ended over the next two weeks.

and the past 11yrs dayton has had in the playoffs, are all under coach stewarts coaching.

nederland has been with neuman  for 11 straight also.

I think it was 2002... they had a 5-5 season and didn't make it to the playoffs.

In 2001, WO-S ended up in a tie for 3rd with TJ and lost out

In 2002, WO-S ended up in a 3-way tie for 2nd with Nederland and Central and again lost out, finishing with an 8-2-0 record

In 2003, WO-S again ended up in a 3-way tie for 2nd, again with Nederland and Central, and lost out for a 3rd time, finishing once again with an 8-2-0 record

This will be 4 appearances in a row this season....  2004-2007

The Yates teams of the 80's were awesome.  Now they just play in a HISD district.  :

Any coincidence that C. Thompson left in 2000 and then Hooks misses the playoffs the next three year??? I don't think so.  Thompson does a great job running that program.

Many of those years in a division above their true numbers because they elected to stay in 5A.
