Cardinals to Hold Second Red/White Scrimmage Wednesday Afternoon Lamar hosts Incarnate Word Saturday at 7 p.m. in the first of two exhibition games. Oct. 30, 2007 BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's basketball team will hold its second Red/White Scrimmage Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Montagne Center. The scrimmage will serve as a tune-up for Saturday, when Lamar hosts Incarnate Word at 7 p.m. in the first of two exhibition games. The Cardinals will also host Central Oklahoma Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. Lamar opens the regular season at home Nov. 13 when LeTourneau University visits the Montagne Center for a 7 p.m. Newcomers Kenny Dawkins and Jay Brown stole the show in the first Red/White scrimmage with both scoring 28 points and grabbing seven rebounds to lead the Red Team past the White Team, 109-80, last Saturday. A 5-9, 155-pound point guard from Holly Springs, Miss., Dawkins was 13-of-16 from the field in scoring his 28 points. Brown, a 6-7, 235-pound forward from Griffin, Ga., was 10-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Justin Nabors, a 6-6, 215-pound forward from Holly Springs, Miss., recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Ashton Hall, a 6-6, 210-pound forward from Kountze, added 17 points. Senior Lamar Sanders, a preseason first-team All-Southland Conference selection, led the White Team with 22 points and nine rebounds. Junior Lawrence Nwevo also nearly recorded a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. The two teams combined to shoot 53.4 percent (78-of-146) from the field, 36.1 percent (13-of-36) from 3-point range and 83.3 percent (20-of-24) from the free throw line.
