Lumberton 80 Silsbee 70/FINAL

Lumberton’s finish this year can be attributed to two things. A super coaching job and a weaker than normal district. With what they graduated last year and what they had moving up I would have never got this prediction right. After watching them several times earlier this year I was surprised they beat Silsbee at Silsbee. I guess shocked would be more accurate. I watched Coach Mitchell since he was at Hardin and the credit for the Raiders resurgence is his. He’s changed the culture of Lumberton’s basketball program. Congratulations Raiders !!

So you did not know they had a d1 starter returning?  (Lumberton)

You do know they lost 4 starters and only had 2 returning varsity players back from last years team right? They also lost another good senior who started some games.

That means nothing.  Go look at any boys basketball program in the last 50 years (as long as I have been around) in SouthEast Texas.  If the team has a D1 basketball player returning, that team will finish 1st or 2nd in their district HANDS DOWN 10000000% of the time.  There is not an argument that opposes this fact.

A 6-6 wing who handles the ball and is a D1 talent is enough to finish near the top of any 4A district.  In this district, it was a no brainer.   It was always going to be them who presented the biggest challenge to Silsbee.

Agreed. Coach Mitchell deserves all of the credit in the world, but returning a D1 player of that size and skill will get you first or second in that district.

With what Lumberton lost losing the 4 guards they lost from last years team and only bringing back McClure and with BC, LCM, bringing back basically everyone and you have Silsbee who has tradition and athletes everywhere No nobody thought Lumberton who has made the playoffs 4 times in history would be district champs lol this is a ESPN come on man moment.

That is not the case 100% of the time. Could show you many examples that counter your point.

Plenty of us thought they would be top 2.  Great coach and the best player in the district?  Not rocket science.  Silsbee-Lumberton-BC were the class of the district coming in and it was going to be a free for all for that last spot.

Correct.  One from a few years ago comes to my mind 😉 (and in a lower classification).

He’s going to be right way more than he’s wrong though, especially when dealing with a wing with size who can handle and shoot it, or a PG.

I gotta admit picking games and finishes this year I’ve been awful. Even without the injuries I would have missed on LCM by a mile. That being said there’s no way any one could have projected this finish. For the Raiders to win the district everything had to fall perfectly in to place, which it did for them. The Tigers getting hit with Covid opened the door and Josh’s crew took advantage. Still after watching the clubs in the district several times I would never have picked the Raiders and after they played Silsbee in the first half of district I felt even stronger about the order of finish. Good to see an underdog win it. The playoffs should be fun. I’m not picking a winner in those 😂😂🏀

Almost a week passed and were still talking about this game?  Lumberton won it and will finish as district champs.  Don’t matter how it happened.  2 games left.  Finish strong and make the push into the playoffs...  🤦🏾🤦🏾
