Your logic makes no sense. They need power to run like everyone else. Pipelines don't freeze up or buckle in cold weather. Weather like this can cause lots of problems in the plants mainly associated with the instrumentation. Why do you think this is the fault or responsibility of gov? Quote

Why were 49 other states prorated but not us? And I admit pipelines can’t buckle in the cold I was wrong about that. But the equipment to extract natural resources were the ones to buckle. Quote

Why do you think this is the fault or responsibility of gov? Because we are the only state with a separate power grid who is run by people who don’t even live in Texas. Our Texas governor and legislator are the ones to ok this disconnect. So yes it’s their responsibility. Quote

SE Texas wasn't ready for an event that happens every 35 years and we have several of the largest refineries in the US that were affected. Lots of other states (even North Texas) was more prepared because they deal with it, we don't. If you think this is because of the incompetence of the Texas gov, write them a letter and make sure they're prepared for the next event 35 years down the road. Quote
baddog Posted February 18, 2021 Report Posted February 18, 2021 As you head north, lots of things are done differently. Water service lives to your house are roughly 12” deep in Texas. Up north, they are 3’. Rafters on a house in Texas are 2x6, some of the older houses are 2x4 with bracing. Up north they are 2x10. So being unprepared for a freak storm isn’t something to blame states for. We prepare for hurricanes and they still destroy our towns. Ain’t it funny how aoc thinks we should convert to green power while most people in the frigid north heat their homes with heating oil...... shipped up there from Beaumont and Port Arthur? Quote

EagleFan2004 Posted February 18, 2021 Report Posted February 18, 2021 Ok, last thing I’ll post because so everyone can have a productive day. There were numerous states who went through a once in a lifetime winter storm and all of those other states faired WAY better than Texas. I’m not really sure the infatuation with AOC on this forum but it’s kind of creepy that she always get drug into the conversation. I’m a lifelong GOP voter but I’m not handcuffed to them or believe the blatant lies that they trick a lot of the people on this forum with. You guys have a nice day and stay warm. Quote

5GallonBucket Posted February 18, 2021 Report Posted February 18, 2021 This goes to show how spoiled people are. should ve used their income tax money or stimulus money to buy a generator. i ve survived exact same weather in the mountains in a tent where I couldn’t have a fire due to everything being wet and frozen. people were warned ahead of time as they do with hurricanes. its sad people lose their lives due to lack of discipline. Go ahead and call me heartless. It is terrible that people lost loved ones.....but stop pointing the finger at the govt for things like weather and airborne viruses. Is there ways to improve....sure there are.....but first look in the mirror Chester86 and Englebert 2 Quote

WOSdrummer99 Posted February 18, 2021 Report Posted February 18, 2021 Just like every time there's a weather emergency, people make bad decisions. Looking for the govt to solve all their problems is a recipe for another disaster. These weather events will continue more frequently. Hopefully changes will be made to protect the grid for the future. 5GallonBucket 1 Quote
