BEAUMONT - Junior Jay Brown scored 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Red Team past the White Team in both halves of Wednesday's Red/White scrimmage at the Montagne Center.

Lamar hosts Incarnate Word Saturday at 7 p.m. in the first of two exhibition games. The Cardinals host Central Oklahoma Nov. 10 to close the exhibition season. Lamar opens the regular season Nov. 13 when LeTourneau University visits the Montagne Center for a 7 p.m. game.

Lamar coach Steve Roccaforte split the squad in half for both halves of the scrimmage, essential creating two different scrimmages. The Red Team won the first half, 46-23. Justin Nabors, a junior from Holly Springs, Miss. (Northwest Mississippi CC), and Kenny Dawkins, a junior from Holly Springs, Miss. (Arizona Western College), both scored 11 points to lead the Red squad.

Senior Currye Todd (Byhalia, Miss.) scored 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range to lead the White Team. The Red Team shot 48.6 percent (17-of-35) from the field compared to 34.5 percent (10-of-29) by the White Team.

Brown, a 6-7 forward from Griffin, Ga. (L.A. City College), scored 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, in leading the Red Team to a 63-44 win over the White Team in the second 20 minutes. Combining both halves, Brown scored 30 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the field.

Junior Lawrence Nwevo (Lagos, Nigeria) added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and senior Darren Hopkins (Baltimore, Md.) added 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. 

Ashton Hall, a sophomore forward from Kountze (Angelina College), Tristan Worrell, a junior forward from Houston (Angelina College) and senior Matthew Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) all scored 13 points for the White Team. Barrow was 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range.

The Red Team shot 54.3 percent (25-of-46) from the field while the White Team shot 47.2 percent (17-of-36) from the field. The Red Team outrebounded the White Team 27 to 16.

Nabors recorded a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds with both halves added together. Dawkins added 17 points and eight assists, and Hopkins tallied 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
