Guest abovetherim Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 Red Ousts White 82-59 in Lady Cardinals Scrimmage Abalde leads all scorers with 29 points Oct. 31, 2007 BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's basketball team split up for a Red-White scrimmage Wednesday night, and the Red team used a dominating second half to pull away for an 82-59 victory at the Montagne Center. Several players switched teams during halftime, but the results were the same as the Red team won both halves. The Red team, led by Tamara Abalde's 15 points in the first half, took a 37-31 lead into the break. The second half saw more of the same as Abalde poured in 14 points, giving the Red a 45-28 advantage. For the game, seven different players scored in double figures for the Lady Cardinals, led by Abalde's 29 points and eight rebounds. The second leading scorers in the game were Ashley Crawford and Jasmine Stewart. Crawford scored 16 points, playing for both the Red and the White and Stewart picked up 16 points while playing for the White team both halves. Brittney Williams and Agnija Reke each had solid performances as well, netting 14 points apiece. Williams scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Red team while Reke scored five points for the White team in the first half and nine points for the Red team in the second half. Also playing well were Shaunice Orabo and Emily Spickler, who both played on the Red and the White teams'. Orabo netted 12 points in the scrimmage, seven in the first half for the White team and five in the second half for the Red team, while Spickler had 11 points, six in the first half for the White and five in the second half for the Red. Trashanna Smith also had a solid performance, scoring eight points and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 when they take on the All Stars at the Montagne Center. Following the women's exhibition, the LU men will take on Incarnate Word at 7 p.m.

She doesn't look anything like a freshman. She can handle the ball like a point guard, mix it up down low a little, shoot, defend any position. She handles herself and plays the game like a veteran. She's going create match up nightmares.(Oh yeah, and at risk of sounding like a broken record, she's pretty easy on the eyes.)
