Abbott trying to save his political butt, and at the same time pass the buck on to local govt.  A little too late IMO.  Should've either done this from the beginning and let it run it's course, or waited another month or two when everyone is vaccinated.  This timing is dumb as far as I'm concerned.  I get that y'all hate masks, and that's great, but at this point why throw caution to the wind this close to the finish line.  We've dealt with this for a year, and are literally weeks away from having everyone vaccinated that wants to be.  But whatever.  We'll see how it plays out with spring break coming up.  Don't start whining when the hospitals fill back up and LOCAL government institutes the same rules that have been in place for the last year.

Those that are concerned can still wear their masks.  Those that are concerned can still social distance.  Those that are concerned can wear a hepa-filter on a Vietnam-era gas-mask......I do not care, just not going to wear one.  I do agree though this should have been done from the beginning, but lemming-mentality took hold.

I’m a strong believer in the immune system

i understand some people have health issues so yeah get the vaccine

i will go out on a limb and say most people in this world have been exposed unless you wear a hazmat suit on an island.

my immune system says thank you for letting me deal with this virus

I agree with @bullets13 as far as timing....should ve never mandated it.

vaccine isn’t going to make it go away.....just like the flu.

issues will rise now with local and city officials, businesses, and the people they serve. No shoes no shirt no mask mess.  And if law is on business side then I don’t want to hear about a cake company refusing service to gay couple.

If that happens, I will not be following that rule. I’ll treat it like the speed limit. I’ll slow down when I need to - even below the speed limit if conditions warrant. But if it’s a wide open highway and the po po ain’t lookin’, I’m eastbound and down, loaded up & truckin!

I've worn one quite a bit, but I'm out and about a lot.  I figured that I would have long since gotten sick, but I guess I haven't.  I've worn mine mostly so that I don't infect anyone else, and also in hopes that I won't look like one of those old a-holes walking around with an angry look and MAGA hat, but no mask.

I rank those guys right next to the ones that have their pants sagging below their butt cheeks.

If you've been vaccinated (both doses), you should be fine.  Indications are that vaccinations greatly reduce the amount of serious illnesses caused by Covid (around 96% success rate), but it's possible that you could still contract it and become contagious, even with no or very mild symptoms.  The research may later show that this is not the case, but I believe they're encouraging continued mask wearing out of an abundance of caution until they've got more data on the infection rates after vaccination.  You could conceivably still become infected and spread the illness to someone else.  I'm of the opinion that once everyone who wants to be vaccinated has had the opportunity to get one, go back to normal and anyone who chooses to pass on inoculation and gets extremely sick or dies has nobody to blame but themselves.  I actually know (knew) a guy who fit into this category.  I'm fairly confident he would do things differently were he given a second chance, but instead he's been dead a couple of weeks now.  I have a feeling that in a few months there will be a second wave of people getting vaccinated as those who chose not to get it when first offered start to realize that they're the only ones still getting sick and dying.

That’s the only reason I ever wore one. I didn’t want my son to have to stay home during his senior year. But since I’m at warp speed now, I don’t see the necessity. But I like the old MAGA hat guys. At least I know they’re not trying to make my kids think that 7 year olds should take puberty halting drugs, they’re not gonna ask me to give up my arsenal of weapons I got locked up in my house and they’re not going to support me getting taxed into oblivion and they’re not going to ask me to quit reading a book that was written by Mark Twain cuz the word “negro” was used in it or stop me from watching Uncle Remus with my grandkids or make me pay for abortions with my tax dollars or ..... Well, you get my point.

I could get in a wreck and die in a car on my way to work too. Life is a risk. Gotta draw lines somewhere. I choose to draw mine for me and my family cuz that’s my job. Not our government’s. I would be interested to know the possibility/probability of getting the virus after vaccination. I’m tired of looking up stats that are moving up and down like a tide of political indoctrination and fear mongering.
By the way, I certainly respect your opinion, but that’s mine.

Of course.  I expect to see a lot of employers continue to require workers to wear them.  Most places can't afford an outbreak that would close the business for 10-14 days, and they could also find themselves being sued for transmissions that might have occurred between employees in the workplace.

I’m tired of these damn masks.😷 although they become part of my wardrobe. PAMFAM rocks the fancy type had a Texans one Nike, Jordan, company one etc. I honestly feel like we’re in the free I no longer hear so and so got COVID. It’s the governor’s call. He’ll either be a hero or something else in a month.

I’ll hang on to my mask just in case.

(will wear them another month)

Pray to God that this is finally the end.

I went to get my DL renewed and a lady in a Darth Vader suit comes outside.  She asks me 15 questions and takes my temperature.  One at a time they “allow” us in as they sit behind protective plastic “force-fields”.  The same thing happens when I go to get my tags.  Yet as a first responder we don’t have this “luxury”.  You call 911 we simply come out and handle business.  I never once wore a mask.
Life is a risk.  Every time you drive your life is hinging on a 6” center stripe dividing you and opposing traffic.  If you feel safer wearing a mask - by all means continue wearing it to your hearts content.  When my son had cancer and we made weekly, sometimes daily trips to MD Anderson those that were in serious immune-system jeopardy wore masks.  You could tell who they were and tried to keep a safe distance - but not everyone wore one.  The “outrage” at this confuses me.  Every time we go to the store, probably 30% don’t wear a mask, 40% don’t wear one properly (rendering it useless), and 30% wear one.  To each his own.

    • That should tell everyone something pretty clearly. Does anyone really think BH is recruiting elementary kids, to get them to transfer in Jr. high? Seriously? Here is the "dirty little secret" about BH: Most people move to the district for a quality living environment to raise their young family, and benefit from the outstanding acedemics at BH. Even If all athlectics suddenly disappeared from BH, people would still want their kids in the district. If thats not enough to convince anyone, and BH really was determined to recruit, first step would be to have open enrollemnt. It is closed.        Yes, I get it, no one ever wants to give BH the benefit of the doubt on anything. Some of the accusations are beyond ridiculous though. This paranoia the BH critics are afflicted with is not just sad, its flat out laughable.
    • Opting is always an option. Are they considering any BC assistants? Highly qualified after that season they put up.
    • Be that as it may, only time will tell. Hide and watch. Don’t be surprised if the next HC hire uses his own recipe. That happens more than not historically. I am not arguing the point that Hooks & CT had a winning combination that could’ve been carried over. I’m saying that finding someone to do that is not going to be as easy as one might think. Tell me again why Saban’s replacement, who even has Saban’s assistance if he wants it, just lost another game to an unranked team and has taken the Tide out of playoff contention? Why wouldn’t he just follow the success of possibly the greatest college football coach ever lived?
    • We've acknowledged having 2 HOF coaches hasn't been like most other schools. So why everyone jumps to the conclusion it wouldn't work here is beyond my comprehension. I see it carry over with these other hires. Gilmer, Aledo, North Shore, Austin Westlake. Next man up that continues the system in place has instant success. Matter fact there was 2 rookie HC that won the state championship the same year we handed over the keys. Same book. Same recipe. Better ingredients.
