Guest abovetherim Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Talking about Tidwell "Lamar has a special "find" in Coach Tidwell. Larry has more than paid his dues. He is an excellent and tenacious recruiter that knows every layer of Texas talent. He has also outworked every coach in the country when it comes to building a network of contacts on the international recruiting front. In addition to being a productive, high octane recruiter, Larry Tidwell is also one excellent teacher that will definitely coach up his Lamar talent big time. Great recruiter; great coach ... and then there is Larry Tidwell aka Mr. Personality! It is great to see the good ones in our sport get rewarded and Coach Tidwell will make both Lamar University and Women's Basketball proud!" Douglas Bruno - Head Coach DePaul University "Larry Tidwell is a tremendous fit for Lamar. He is greatly respected by the entire basketball community nationally and especially in the state of Texas. His recruiting efforts helped build Baylor and TCU into nationally known programs. I am excited for Larry that he gets to run his own program and I know the Cardinal fans will be excited with the kind of team he will develop." Bill Fennelly - Head Coach Iowa State University "Larry Tidwell is one of the best recruiters in the country. He will work countless hours to raise the Lamar women's basketball program. His energy and passion will benefit the entire Lamar athletic program. I have no doubt Lamar will be competing for southland conference championships very soon under his leadership." Jeff Mittie - Head Coach TCU "It's great to see Larry get a chance at being a head coach. No one is more deserving. His work ethic and passion for the game is second to none." Christy Curry - Head Coach Texas Tech "Coach Tidwell represents everything that is "right" with College Basketball. He always has the best interest of the student-athlete at heart in all that he does. His teams compete at the highest level without ever compromising their integrity. He is truly one of the hardest working and most caring people I know." Charli Turner-Thorne - Head Coach Arizona State "I respect Larry Tidwell more than any other coach in the NCAA, and that trust started way back in Schulenburg, Texas when he was a high school coach. We have a very brother-like friendship and he is somebody I can really trust. He's somebody that Lamar University can trust. He puts the welfare of the student athlete first and foremost, making them a student first and then and athlete." Joe Curl - Head Coach University of Houston "Larry Tidwell is like National Geographic of Texas. He's been everywhere and has been successful at every level of the game. No one in the state of Texas has more contacts with the high school and junior high school coaches than Larry. As Larry The Cable Guy says, `Git-r-done!' Larry The Basketball Coach will `Get it done' at Lamar." Gary Blair - Head Coach Texas A&M University "When I heard that my good friend Billy Tubbs had hired Larry Tidwell to be the women's basketball coach at Lamar University, I thought `Billy, you just hit a grand slam homerun.' Larry is a great coach and a great recruiter, and he'll do a great job for Lamar University." Van Chancellor - Head Coach LSU "What a great hire for Lamar University. Larry Tidwell will bring energy, enthusiasm, dedication, and loyalty to Lamar University Lady Cardinal basketball. The high school coaches of Texas respect and support Coach Tidwell. Sam Tipton - Executive Director, Texas Girls Coaches Association "Lamar University has taken a real positive step towards the future with the hiring of Larry Tidwell. Every program he's been at has been successful. Some of them weren't successful before he got there, but they had a lot of success while he was there. He has a great relationship with all of the girl's coaches in the state of Texas and which will definitely help in recruiting and he is great working with the athletes." Dr. Bill Forney - UIL Executive Director "Larry Tidwell has an amazing passion for the sport of women's basketball, and throughout his coaching career he has made a huge impact, first at the high school level and then at the collegiate level. He has a great commitment to teaching, developing and working with young basketball players.
