Prior to coming to Lamar, Wells served as an assistant coach for division II powerhouse Missouri Western. Along with his knowledge, Wells brings an infectious excitement and enthusiasm to the Lady Cardinals, on and off the court. His primary basketball duties at with the Lady Cardinals will include all post play, with special emphasis on defensive and offensive game play. He will also be in charge of recruiting junior college and international players. He will take care of or schedule line-up, and direct the Lady Cardinals summer camps. With the help of Wells, Missouri Western averaged 23 wins over the last two seasons and posted a 30-4 record last year. Wells recruited and coached two NCAA division II All-Americans, one conference MVP, and five first team all conference players. The Griffons earned a No. 2 national ranking, won the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Assoc. Conference Championship and advanced to the regional semifinals. Before his stint as Missouri Western, Wells spent two years as the head coach at Ranger Junior College in Ranger, Texas. He also spent two seasons as the head coach at Howard Junior College in Big Spring, Texas, where he was voted Coach of the Year in the WJCAC for the 2000-01 season. Prior to taking over as the head coach, he was an assistant at Howard for one season. Before transitioning into the women's game, Wells spent the 1998-99 season as an assistant men's basketball coach at Cal State Sacramento, in Sacramento, Calif. Wells graduated from Fresno Pacific University in 1996, earning a bachelors degree in physical education.
