Guest Silsbee88
Actually turf will save money over a 20 year cycle. Another district to the north of WOS has already run the numbers and it will save a significant amount of money after the replacement turf is installed in 12-15 years. It saves on labor, mowers, fertilizer, insecticides, water amoung several other things that it takes to keep a natural grass field in good shape. You also get about 3-4 times the number of annual hours use with out harming a turf field. A turf field can be used for practice, soccer, playoff games and the band and never get too many hours use. stangchain
Not to mention that we can flip for home and home in the playoffs. Most teams want to play on turf, so even if we were to "lose" the flip, the other team will have a field reserved with turf. Furthermore, we can rent out the stadium to other schools for playoff games. You all are so right. It should have been more publicized.
stangchain
tam: I was wrong. I checked. Eric moved up in the middle of the season of his freshman year. I apologize. I didn't remember that. However, kicker, Mack Toler did not play varsity as a freshman.
Guest Silsbee88
How long does the turf last? The life expectancy of turf is 12-15 years, this is mostly due to UV deterioration. The cost to replace the turf in 12-15 yrs is only 55% (plus inflation) of the initial cost because they will not have to redo all the drains and foundation work, basically the only thing they would have to do is recarpet. Then you are good for another 12-15 yrs. This is why after the 12-15 yr cycle you should see a much greater savings to the district. If districts run the numbers on personnel, equipment, water and fertilizers etc, they are actually not fiscally responsible to not have turf installed. Not trying to be a smart ***, but I think I would know.
