What’s the longest you’ve ever driven for a HS football game?

In 1996 I was working in Stavanger Norway and I flew 4,846 miles to Houston, then drove 265 miles to Ft Worth, picking up my son in Huntsville on the way, to see Tenaha play Windthorst for the Class A championship game. Then on Monday, I returned to Norway.

In 1998, I flew from Dammam Saudi Arabia, 7,927 miles, to see Tenaha play Wheeler for the Class A Championship game in Ft Worth.

Ok, the rules have changed, everybody out of the pool, all bets are off.  Worked for Dupont in Singapore in '93 & '94 and on visit home, 9,950 miles later took in the WOS vs LaMarque playoff game in Houston or Pasadena, can't  remember which. Also cool was two months later watching on a Monday morning on live TV as Dallas beat Buffalo in the Superbowl, then I ate breakfast.  Next!!

I have driven to Ratliff stadium in Odessa 3 times. I have a friend that lives in San Angelo. Each trip I have driven to her house on Thursday, spent the night, then drove to Odessa the next morning. Attended the game on Friday night, then drove back to San Angelo. Spent the night, then drove back to my house on Saturday. Each trip was for the explicit purpose of watching Odessa Permian. Does it count if you spread the trip out over a few days?

I've also driven to Lubbock twice. The purpose was to watch a Texas Tech game, but took in a Wollforth Frenship game once, and a Shallowater game on the other trip. The explicit purpose for the trips was the Texas Tech games, but purposely got there on Friday, early enough to attend the High School games. Does this count?

I once drove just over the border to Louisiana to watch North Shore vs. Port Arthur. Yeah mapquest gave me wrong directions

Furthest trip would be Houston to Dallas in 2018 and 2019 for North Shore's two championship wins.

Still funny today 😁

You lucky you could see thru the fog and smoke.

TECHNICALLY, I didnt drive to these but longest I've traveled for a HS football game

As a fan, Beaumont to Aldine to watch Central vs Bay City 2003 playoffs. That Central team should have gone to state. One of the best high school defenses I ever saw.

As a player, Beaumont to Katy. For West Brook vs Katy.

Longest- approx. 642 miles total trip all one day. Lubbock to Arlington to Winnie. Headed home for Christmas break and stopped in Arlington to watch PNG vs Plano 1977 state championship game.

Second longest- approx 628 miles round trip all 1 day. Winnie to Arlington back to Winnie for 1980 state championship game TJ vs Permian.

Labor day weekend I' going to Holiday for the Holiday vs Eastland game. One of my best friends is a coach at Holiday. That will be Beeville to Holiday approx 427 miles one way, 854 round trip, not all in one day.

    • This is good info. It doesn’t really break out for student athletes though. LP & (I think) DP are open enrollment because of the way the towns intertwine. That’s the way it’s been for many years anyway. I assume it still is that way. The kids have a choice after Jr. High to go to either High School because LPISD has elementary schools in DP. As I recall, DP didn’t want to build out more (Robin Hood issues), and so DPISD & LPISD came to an arrangement because LPISD is one of the highest givers to Robin Hood in the state, and it helped both keep more funds in district. Of course, LPISD is open to all. Not just DP, and LPISD is rated well. So, I assume they have kids from elsewhere also. Not positive though. They used to have a lot because—for decades—DeWalt was the only dedicated public school in the GHA that specifically catered to special needs kids. Families from all over enrolled. But, they didn’t participate in extracurricular activities like sports. So, LP’s total enrollment made them 6A. But, they were really a 5A school all along for sports program sake. This is all as best as I can recall from when I was more involved in school issues. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. My kids have been out for 20 years.
    • Our playoff rivalry. They hold a 6-5 edge in the series. I think Newton continues the win streak in a hard fought contest. What say y’all?
    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
    • It’s been awhile, but I seem to remember 5 D starters out & 2 O starters out (OL). A big difference is that Simon wasn’t involved yet. He’s totally changed LP’s rushing attack from last year as a bruising, explosive addition to Barnes, Sandolph & Bright. Last year—and early this season—LP was missing that element. Now, Coach Berneathy is not making talented players wait like many other coaches & even his predecessors at LP. If the kid can produce at the varsity level, they’re moved up. And man, has Simon produced! Over 1200 yards & 20 TD’s in less than a full season so far! It’s allowed LP to alternate RB’s where Barnes doesn’t take all the pounding. Barnes and Sandolph are also able to split out as receivers as desired to add threats that weren’t really an option last year. The PNG/LP game was a full-on tilt & good for both squads. I remember Gary Joseph in the end zone giving his son pointers as an extra set of eyes since he’d had experience with LP in past PO matchups. That was a good game. The score wasn’t really indicative of the game. Not sure anyone felt it was over until the final whistle! Good luck to y’all in Cajun Country. Bring back a win for SE Texas. (Yes. La Porte is still SETX. Ha!)
