You pretty much have to go after your Jr year in Baseball. Seniors have no leverage and don’t get paid. Their signing bonuses are way less because the MLB knows they have no other options. I remember hearing john Patterson's contract as a hs senior in 1996.. From wiki... Montreal lost the draft rights to Patterson on a legal technicality: they sent him a contract offer that was not printed on official team letterhead, and he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks for $6.075 million.
