did you notice that when the announcer was announcing nederlands cheerleaders...

while he was in the middle of a girls name...

i heard the smoke that our team runs out of..

then i hear the horn that we have.

and then our band starts playing and the crowd starts yelling....

and the announcer kept saying the cheerleaders names...

i thought it was kind of wierd that we ran out while he was still announcing the cheerleaders...

At first we all thought it to be a bit rude but later felt that since it was senior night things kinda got behind.  I would like to think it wasn't done on purpose.

They started announcing seniors at 6:35ish....

They announced EVERYBODY!

Not just the football players but the band, twirlers and drill team.

Even the swim team and the golf team!

Our cheerleaders hadn't arrived yet.

They were announcing their cheerleaders at 7:00 when our football team ran in.

We were standing in the endzone at least 10 minutes before we ran through.

I guess the coaches thought it was 7 and that was supposed to be kick off time that they just ran through.

If our cheerleaders had been there we would have run through the inflatable while they were being announced.

he was horrible. even after he so butchered the name Smesny (14) (Smez-knee) to something so off I can't remember it, he finally started calling him Smess ney, which was at least, close. i suppose i can criticize, because i am the Broncos PA announcer for our home games, and believe me, you have to do some homework because, at least to me, pronouncing these names right is the least you can try to do. I already have a roster, and knowing that PNG was at Nederland this year, I can only imagine what became of Bahrad Shayesteh (Sha es tah), Schexnider, Balsamo, and especially Cegielski (Se gel ski or Se geel ski) got pronounced. Now the pronounciations are guesses, but you can bet before I take that long climb to the pressbox Friday night, I'll be out on the field, find a coach and find out how to pronounce the names correctly. It's the least we as announcers should do.

But I remember a couple of specific calls, and the first was classic.

"There's a loss of three on the play, and it will be third and one." 

He also consistently referred to #30 Jeffrey Summers who scored Dayton's last TD on that 53-yard run as #20 Paul Fontenot. Had it been #20 on that play, he would have crossed the goal line with no one within ten yards of him. It wasn't just that one time, however, as Jeffrey had three receptions for 38 yards and one TD catch and each time was named as Fontenot."

Now before you jump me for being critical, after the first "Smesny" mispronunciation, I said something to my coherts on the sideline and was quickly reinforced by a deputy on duty who warned me that this guy was terrible. In his defense, I will say it's not an easy job, someone has to do it, and at least he tries, but needs to try harder. Maybe someone could be his spotter and help him with the numbers and names. I work with a spotter and he makes a world of difference.

Can't say that I disagree with any of that, Mike. I have often said that we need a P.A. buy with more energy. And, it would not hurt to have one with at least a little football knowledge. I remember last year when announcing scores, many times he would announce the team with LESS points first. I don't know why that bothered me so bad. I like the PA announcers that really get into the game such as yourself, LC-M guy, Lumberton guy, and WO-S guy just to name a few. It is and should be a home field advantage in my opinion.

I gave the kid-Ford Smesny- his first and last name 18 years ago as of Friday night----it has been screwed up many times to the point where now it is a family joke of sorts just to see how many different ways it can be mangled--I assure you we do not get upset about it anymore.

Friday night is about the Football Team. I am tired of the Cheerleading sponsers and Band Directors thinking they run the show. The football team and coaches are what matters on Friday night.  Band and Cheerleaders are just a supporting cast. PERIOD!!!!!
