Battle for OC

Recommended Posts

For the second year in a row all the OC teams are in the same district which will be fun to watch them battle it out.  What are your predictions on how they will finish.  I have mine below as well as district finish.

OC: 1. OF 2. WOS 3. LCM 4. Vidor 5. BC

District 1. Silsbee 2. OF 3. WOS 4. Lumberton 5. LCM 6. Vidor 7. BC

I thought Bridge City was supposed to have a good class of freshman they brought up last year? I realize they lost quite a bit of senior leadership, though, so that could hurt them this season.

Anyways: district only.

1. Silsbee

2. West Orange

3. Orangefield

4. Lumberton

5. LCM

6. BC

7. Vidor.

Earlier I had it Silsbee, Lumberton, WO-S, Orangefield.  I have had a conversation with a prominent and much accomplished select coach out of Bridge City and I'm going to revise my picks.  He says that WO-S is getting a major upgrade in coaching so I'll bump them up.  Then he said that Lumberton has looked really bad in their summer league so I'll bump them down.  He also said that Bridge City has some really good young shooters returning and was beating some of these teams this summer so I'll slide them into the playoffs.  District prediction below.

1.  SIlsbee

2.  WO-S

3.  Orangefield

4.  Bridge City

5.  Vidor

6.  Lumberton

7.  LCM

Lumberton will have 6ft4,6ft5,6ft3 starting and 6ft6 coming off the bench, they have 3 starters back i’m sure Coach Mitchell will put a descent product out there. Also, Lumberton is in the Kountze summer league they have looked descent. LCM will have a really good PG and Elliot is a dang good player.

Most expect the Raiders to be in descent after losing the great Brock McClure.  Any other D1 stars coming down the pipe?

Most of the size some of these teams have doesn't mean much if players can blow by them like they're standing still and they can't run up and down the court very well.

Unless we're talking extreme differences, one team having a few players an inch or two taller than the kids on the other team ain't gonna matter.

OC is going to be a dog fight between LCM, WOS, and OF.  Not sure who has the edge.  All three teams have solid players.  Morris and Elliot for LCM, Wardlow and the big in the middle of WOS, and Wrinkle and Ragusa for OF.

Personally, I am going with depth.  OF is deeper.  They had the better JV and many of those players will step in to help at the varsity level.  They have the ability to shoot the ball extremely well.  Wrinkle and Ragusa can both go for over 20 on any given night.  They have two solid posts that play tough inside.

Some others have mentioned the length of LCM.  They are big, but no help from the bench.  Any foul trouble and they are in trouble.  As aggressive as Morris plays on defense, he will get fouls.  The big in the middle will foul.  Outside shooting will also be a question mark for them.  Jeffcoat does a great job with them though, so I never count them out.

WOS is a question mark with the new coach coming in.  They lost some good players to graduation, but do have Wardlow and the big inside back.  Not sure what help they will have from the bench either.  Their under levels were not good.

Not to discount BC, but what would be their best player (Oceguera) hasn't played all summer due to focusing on football.  Their big guy in the middle is going through some health concerns as well.  Collins and Britten have been solid, but they can't carry the load in this district.

Not real sure about Vidor.  I know they lost a lot to graduation as well.  Their under levels weren't very good either.  They have a wing that is not bad, but not sure what they have after that.  Below are my predictions for OC finish and district.  Not that it matters.

OC-OF, LCM, WOS, BC, Vidor

District-Silsbee, OF, Lumberton, LCM, WOS, BC, Vidor

BC Cardinals deserve a little more respect.  The Cards went two rounds deep and were close to a third.  They return numerous experienced players that have worked really hard this summer.  BC has several really good shooters and will be in the playoff hunt again.

Hold up they lost 3 really dang good players that will be hard to replace.

Yes those guys were special, we’re together forever and they are the reason why they beat Hj because of good guard play and experience and they have a good coach…

No disrespect to the BC club but I think the reason they beat HJ was the suspension of HJ’s best player and the injury to their PG. I give the Cardinals all the credit for taking advantage of the situation and their coach did an outstanding job. The players mentioned for BC are going to be hard to replace.

I have a kid on BC and agree with this except i think LCM has the talent to be the 3rd or 4th place representative. Unsure if it translates to wins but i have coached a lot of kids on that team in Summer AAU ball for years and no reason they shouldn't be in the top 3.

LCM will be top 3 or 4 in the league unless injury or some extracurricular event occurs which is always a chance, BC most likely not in top 4 and I have a kid on the team. We are reloading this year. Lot of talented shooting guards but will lack size and experience. I believe BC will make an upset or two but its definitely a rebuild year for us.
