Forget the money, I want to see the rivalries of old renewed. It's insane that UT-A&M and UT-Arky don't play every year. It's crazy that aggy and ou don't play every year. This is a massive disservice to the institutions, players and us as fans. I miss the real trash talk and bragging rights. I want this to happen.  But I'm a selfish a-hole so what do I know. I did talk to a few Bama and lsu buddies today and they're pissed for obvious reasons. They know if this happens, the recruiting advantage is diminished pretty quick like.

I don't think Alabama's recruiting will skip a beat. LSU might see some issues, but I'm skeptical. I think A&M and Arkansas have the most to lose.

That said, the burden is on UT to prove itself in this situation, and I think the recruits that take this game seriously (i.e., the ones most concerned about draft stock and national championship potential) see it that way as well. UT has a new coach, and has basically only had one season of national relevance in the last ten years. Whatever damage LSU and A&M suffer in the recruiting game can be easily rectified by beating UT, and my money's on both of them to do that. If Arkansas beats UT - which is very much possible, if unlikely - I don't think anybody suffers any recruitment loss at the hands of UT. Austin's fun for college kids and all, but it can only carry UT's recruiting game so far. There's an argument to be had that OU's a bigger threat to recruiting in the SEC than UT is. The Sooners are more likely to perform well in the near future.

There's one more variable we all have to account for, though, and that's the name/image/likeness value. I don't think anybody's sure how that affects recruiting. All bets are off on that one.

In the short term, you're right. But this isn't a short-term decision. There's no denying that SEC recruiting in this state took an exponential leap forward soon after aggy jumped ship and the B12 only had 2 blue bloods left. Before that, it was NU and Colorado who took a fair share of Texas HS talent, with a smaller percentage going to LSU and Arky. But, no doubt, aggy moving opened the flood gates for the rest of the SEC, and it hurt recruiting at Texas and ou. We'll see how it plays out, but I'd expect a lot of these players that go OOS to SEC schools that couldn't stomach the ags will go to the good guys in the future (exhibit A, Brockermeyer brothers).

Fair enough. Only time will tell.

We can have a standing bet every year.  You take aggy, I get UT.  The only caveat is that it’s the same amount every year (unless we both agree to bump or lower it) and the bet happens EVERY year.  In other words, neither party can back out absent agreement of both parties.  I like money.  You can even name the amount.

OU, in my opinion, is the one that would hurt Arkansas football recruiting, not UT.

I agree with that.  However, I think Texas joining helps Arkansas’s recruiting.  There’s a reason Arky is on board with UT joining the party.  They are hoping for one of CFB’s great rivalries to ramp up again, not the fake one that has been manufactured.  Us old guys remember when UT-Arkansas was one of the best rivalries in the country.   To resume that adds extra dollars to the Hogs (on top of the added conference revenue) and should give them a better recruiting angle for Texas recruits.

Boy!  I am seeing all over twitter about how A&M fans are supposedly so opposed to Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC.  Which begs a couple of questions:

1.  Is A&M's opposition to the move by Texas and Oklahoma as real as social media makes it out to be? And if the answer to #1 is "yes:"

2.  Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind A&M's opposition?

Serious question so only serious answers requested.

I think A&M might have just wanted to have the recruiting advantage of being in a better conference than Texas. I think it'll be good to see some of the old SWC rivalries come back to life other than the A&M/UT one.

I'm a Nebraska fan and I wonder how the ripple effect will affect them. Maybe the Big XII should throw the Brinks truck at them and Missouri (among others - Maybe CU?) to strengthen their conference. Maybe they go after Houston, UCF, Memphis, etc.

This is nuts.

If the Big12-4 wants to keep the conference afloat I could see them reaching out to Nebraska and Colorado, but I think the ship has sailed for Mizzou, the money too good in the SEC. I like the idea of adding UofH and Memphis to make the number fit the conference name again, hell it made sense to add those two schools years ago but I believe a certain school in-state wanted nothing to do with UofH, at least that's what was told to me. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Latest rumors are Ohio State and Michigan are wanting to make move to SEC. I have a feeling this is a start to building enough power to break away from the NCAA.

There's all kinds of crazy rumors out there, I've seen Clemson, FSU and Miami wanting into the SEC. Conference USA brass chimed in today with a statement basically saying without saying they're open for business. I'm waiting on the Pac12 to release a similar statement soon. It'll calm down middle-to-late August. Only thing that's true is OU & UT not waiting til 2025 to join the SEC, they want in after the school year ends, and they'll have the money to do it.
