AggiesAreWe Posted September 13, 2021 Report Posted September 13, 2021 Sabine Pass will not field a football team this season. All the games scheduled for the rest of the season has been canceled. It's my understanding that SP's district games will result in forfeits. Quote

Chester86 Posted September 13, 2021 Report Posted September 13, 2021 They should have made a move to 6-man a long time ago. RETIREDFAN1 and scat_trap 2 Quote

Problem with that is not enough local teams play 6 man to have a local district. Would be too much travel for a school that far south. Reason why High Island went back to 11 man football. Quote

With other local 11 man teams. If Sabine Pass were to go the 6 man route, they would be a 1A DI school. Chester and Apple Springs are currently DII. In fact, that is our only UIL 6man district (13 1A-DII) we currently have here locally. RETIREDFAN1 1 Quote

coachbronk Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 They should still make the move to sixman and just deal with the travel. It’s not as bad as you think. They need to do whatever needs to be done to field a football program and sustain it. Quote
Matthew328 Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 Do they have the enrollment to play six-man or would they have to do outlaw? Quote

TXFB1974 Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 My cousin was a cheerleader there, she quit her senior year because there’s nothing for cheerleaders to do because the football team keeps getting canceled. They never have a problem fielding a baseball or basketball team there. Seems like it should be easy to figure out what the problem with the football team is……. Quote

tvc184 Posted September 15, 2021 Report Posted September 15, 2021 Actually many SP students are from PAISD and maybe others. SP sends school buses to the intracoastal canal bridge between PA and SP (which is all actually PA) in the mornings and afternoons. Parents who want their children to go to school in SP (and don’t feel like driving the extra couple of miles) drop their kids off at the buses under the bridge in the mornings and pick them up at the same place in the evening after school.
