KFDM COOP Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Lamar Volleyball: Meengs Named SLC Offensive Player of the Week BEAUMONT – After helping the Lamar University volleyball team to a pair of wins against Central Arkansas and Northwestern State last week, setter Adrianne Meengs was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Meengs, a sophomore from Friendswood, Texas, helped Lamar to a pair of wins over UCA and Northwestern State, averaging 12.67 assists per game. In Friday’s win over UCA she tied her career-high with five service aces while passing out 38 assists, knocking down eight kills with a .500 hitting percentage and picking up seven digs. In Saturday’s win over Northwestern State she again passed out 38 assists, while picking up nine digs, three service aces and three blocks. For the week she passed out 76 assists, had eight service aces and knocked down 14 kills for the Lady Cards. In addition to her impressive kills, assists and serving numbers, she had a .273 hitting percentage, picked up 16 digs, posted three blocks and scored a team-high 23 points to earn the third player of the week award of her career. She currently ranks third in the SLC with 11.09 assists per game in conference play and ranks sixth in the conference in hitting percentage at .294. In addition to her offensive prowess, she has also been solid defensively, averaging 2.08 digs per game, which is fifth-best on the team. This is the sixth player of the week award for Lamar this season. Also earning the honors were libero Andrea Hamilton who earned the defensive honor after the opening week of conference play while outside hitters Kaci Brewer and Destiny Mason were named offensive and defensive players of the week last week. Meengs and the Lady Cardinals are 13-1 in the SLC and 22-8 overall on the year. They will close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of matches against SLC West foes Texas A&M Corpus Christi and UT-San Antonio. Friday’s match against Corpus Christi starts at 7 p.m., while Saturday’s contest will begin at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at McDonald Gym.
