NDNation Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 Taking Texas High School football to Louisiana. Odd. Didn't see a lot of defense played in round 1 or 2. We're fixing to see it in Round 3. Hopefully Trahan is good to go. PNG 35 Texas High - 28 PNG takes down their 2nd undefeated team. ScubaSteve and the weasel 2 Quote
uptheWay Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 both teams will be ready to play. Hope we see a good game. Quote

Bordertown Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 After Texas High beat Fulshear, I watched the end of the Texas City/Madison game. I felt at the time, the Tigers could contain the Stingeree’s rushing attack and they exceeded my expectations. Only watched the last couple of plays of the PNG games, so have no preconceived notions on the Indians offense which appears to be prolific. However, it appears the Indian’s defense is pedestrian. What caught my eye was they allowed the running back rush for 300 yards. Stewart the Tiger running back rushed for 311 against Fulshear. Texas City held him to 80 yards which opened up our dormant passing attack. Texas High’s defense is the strength of the team and the defensive coordinator is very good at making adjustments. I am impressed with the PNG quarterback and hopefully he is healthy for Friday. He appears to make good decisions. He will be facing an opportunistic secondary that has in excess of 20 interceptions. My final observation is both teams have opposite views of offense and defense. PNG seems to stack their offense with athletes and Texas has its defense. Will make this an interesting contest of strength v strength. I believe the difference will be an underrated Tiger offense. prepballfan 1 Quote

MrFleet23 Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 Was at the TH vs TC game. TH defense, in my very humble opinion, didn’t do anything special in that game. All of us from our district knows that TC had the smallest and possibly the worst OL in the district. As big as TH DL is and they are damned big. TC OL was able to hold them off. Hate to bad mouth a kid but TC QB play was just turrble. Kid just rolled out and threw the ball up for grabs one of em his WR wasn’t within 15 yards of the ball. I could just be spoiled by Myles but IMHO the QB play from TC was the worse showing in the playoffs. On the other hand TH is getting better every week and gaining confidence. They do have athletes on both sides of the ball. LBs are quick and the DB’s play well. I do think that PNG will be able to score and will make some stops tho. Going with PNG on this one. Another high scoring game. Just don’t think TH Defense will get any penetration. Rez, ScubaSteve and prepballfan 3 Quote
Reagan Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 Playing in Lousiannna is a bit bizarre! This is a Texas UIL sanctioned playoff game played in another State. Has the HC from PNG explained to the fans why this is happening? Or does anyone know? Quote

Bordertown Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 Not a UIL issue. Back in the mid 2000s, Texas High and Highland Park played in Shreveport. Story goes Highland Park did not feel Rose Stadium in Tyler was a large enough venue to host the game. They wanted Ford Stadium at SMU to be the neutral site. Texas High said no as that is in their backyard. Agreed to flip for a neutral location. HP picked Ford Stadium and expected TH to pick Rose. Texas High won the coin toss and picked Independence Stadium in Shreveport. Not sure on the back story on Nachitoches, but suspect PNG did not want Lufkin as the Tigers had familiarity with the facilities. Only reason SFA was not selected was (1) not available or (2) PNG had an issue with Nac is in our district. Pure speculation on my part. Quote

uptheWay Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 TC had to be able to run the ball to win. Dline was prepared for that. PNG prob leans on passing game more so i think that allows dline to try and get off ball and get after qb or least I hope. PNG is much better team on offense . Good luck both teams. Quote
Hagar Posted November 21, 2021 Report Posted November 21, 2021 I thought PNG had a good shot against Montgomery. I’ll still be pulling for the Indians, but Texas High appears to be a much more solid team. PNG still may win, just going to take more effort, and a few breaks, imo. I hope the TH fans get tired of Cherokee. Quote
