Briles came in 2019 going 8-3 then 12-3 on the way out in 2020. I guess we'll have to disagree. Had the UIL not decided to screw MV and disqualify 2 star players (who were not there under Finney) they would have advance much deeper. District committee had already ruled the players eligible. The hiring committee decided to go with an outside applicant instead of hiring within. Hickman wasn't the only coach on staff that applied for the Silsbee job. Offensive Co. (Mackey) also applied for the job. It was my understanding the committee thought it was best for an outside hire so they recommended Smith. IMO, both Hickman and Mackey were more than qualified to be head coaches at Silsbee. Smith has done a good job so the committee did good with the hire. TxHoops, Reagan and Mr. Buddy Garrity 3 Quote

If that coach happens to be black, then congrats to those in the community that feels that race should be the sole deciding factor in the process. If it’s Toby, congrats to those that want a home grown Coach that bleeds blue like they do. If there is a better coach out there that has a better track record of winning games and building programs, then you hire them, regardless of race. 21 hours ago, Mr. Thornton Melon said: Your screen name brings back some good memories. AggiesAreWe Posted January 20, 2022 Report Posted January 20, 2022 FYI, Hickman is the lone finalist but still has to be approved by the board. Most likely will be approved but stranger things have happened. High majority of the time a school board will approve what a supt. recommends. KF89 and One4All 2 Quote
