WOS by 3

So we're looking at something like 105 to 102?  Just kidding.

It's clear that the Tigers' district strategy is to simply to outscore their opponents.  And the key is three point efficiency.  If they can lure the Mustangs into running up and down, which is always a temptation, and can hit their 3's then the Tigers will score in triple figures.  Now, can the Mustangs hang with that? Factor in also that since this is an important away game and there probably won't be anything like a 30 point separation the Tigers likely play only the first 8 or 9 and they'll maintain a higher intensity longer than against Lumberton or Bridge City.

Except for only a small number of possessions the Tigers simply refused to let Lumberton run it's offence.  It's not that Silsbee shut the Raiders down exactly.  It's rather that most times down the Tigers either quickly generated a turnover or gave Lumberton a quick shot, a good number of which they made.  After all, scoring 63 is not bad.  But scoring 94 in 3 quarters is at another level.

I can see a game like Silsbee/Orangefield where the Bobcats had plenty of opportunities and scored plenty but were simply outscored.  Or not.

This will likely be Silsbee’s closest district game (even though WOS will finish somewhere between 5th and 3rd in district), like it is many years (close being a relative term).  This is because WOS always has the next most talent in the district, even though they are chronic underperformers against its other district foes.

IDK.  West Orange likes to play fast.

If I am coaching any team in this district, I am not going to try and run with Silsbee. You have to slow it down and force them into a half court game. Otherwise, you may score 60-80 points, but you will lose by 25+.

WO-S best chance of keeping it "close" is to utilize their height and length and slow the game down.

I remember around 2014 or so WOS beat Silsbee in a district playoff to win district. I think WOS lost to Navasota that year in the Regional Tournament. Silsbee lost to Yates in the 3rd round in Huntsville on a raining Tuesday night. I remember one of my brother in laws and I driving back to Houston in the pouring down rain. Yates beat Navasota to advance to state that year.

WOS took 2 of 3 from Silsbee that year.  Laquarious Paige was on another level.

Was he back for the Orangefield game?  This make the whole thing more interesting.  How tall?  I wasn't planning on going to the game but now....

He was back for the Orangefield game and he did make a difference.  I believe the Orange Leader said that he had 9 points and 13 boards.  He is about 6'5" and has some hops.

    • Still, from what little I saw, it should have been a much closer game.  WOS was missing some fundamentals on defense, and a lack of imaginative play calling on offense.  Just my opinion as an objective observer on Texan Live, which was horrible btw, but that's another story.
    • Either way,one game lead in the series. I rely to much on word of mouth
    • West Orange Stark has been a powerhouse since I csn remember. At some point, your bound to fall off to some degree. Alabama has 3 or 4 loses this season. Who would have thought? Has Orange lost kids to LCM or even Orangefield?
    • Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716).  The Tiger defense is solid and very quick.    Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.
    • The baseball coach has a ton of experience at high school and college level and hasn’t done anything for I think around 7 years now,it’s just something that the higher ups live with. And there has been talent come through that he hasn’t done anything with!
