Well look at it from another angle.he has no H/C experience.and only was a defensive coordinator with Silsbee.and there defense wasn't gud.and wasn't even w.o D/C. MIKE pierce and CT ran the defense.and the topper at any level idk any coach that would switch his whole defense and offense.after been 2 games from winning state. He knows from the 7th grade on up we don't have the size or the talent coming up to run this defense.u have to go with what ur kids does best and then add to it.dont get me wrong I hope and pray that I am wrong.but,we're asking alot.and idk if ur not seeing how kids have been wide open in our secondary bcz our kids are confused.like #13 for lcm left open abt 3 or 4 times.and then #19 for png they best player left open a few times.

It could be superintendent purpose to destroy the tradition in football.

Blame on the superintendent and the board to make a decision for what happened to kids.

I agreed most of what true hard die Mustangs say about defense changing. When I watched and it really sick in my stomach. They will not success to play deep in the playoffs if they keep that way.

I really feel bad for kids because of wrong direction from coaches.

🙄

I don’t need to look at it from a different angle. I wrote that comment back in March. He had not even installed a new defense yet. But If the kids are confused, then they will eventually learn it and get better. Are you saying they aren’t smart enough to learn a new defense or are you saying that new HC’s shouldn’t install a new offense or defense? Dude, that’s a pretty weak argument. WOS may not win state this year. They don’t win it every year no matter who the HC is.

It would be interesting to know where WOS ranked in points and yards allowed over the past 30 years compared to other High Schools in the State? We know they have the highest winning percentage in the State. Does anyone know that stat?

I know they've had alot of good defenses in the past that were only averaging giving up 5 points or less a game. The 2016 defense obviously. But I remember the 2008 and 2012 defense being lights out. Giving up 5 points or less a game till they got eliminated. 2008 they lost to gilmer in 3rd round defense started out slow first half but shut them down the second half but didn't have enough offense for the comeback. And 2012 lost to Navasota 4th round. That team was on a mission and they wasn't being stopped.. but I would say on average the defense over all the years combine problems averages given up about 10 ppg... that's just me guessing. Right now this season there ppg giving up is 19.6  through 3 games.

My reasoning for asking that question is I am sure they were in the top 10 percent or 5 percent in the State over the last 30 years or so in points and yards allowed. So why would you change a Defense or somebody i.e. Coach Pierce who coached that Defense if they are getting the job done at the highest level in the State?

I ask myself the same question. Coach t could coach defense. And it shows. Some of the worst defenses wos has ever had was in the early 2000's and why is that? Cause coach t left and was at Palestine for a few years during that time

I dont think that there's much doubt that they'd probably be #1 in all classes defensively if that was a stat someone kept. Not saying they were the best in the state every year but they were certainly close to the top in most years. There's always a team each year that had so much talent that they were loaded defensively, but we were good every year and great many.

If my resources and math is correct over the past 37 years since 1985 the wos defense has given up an average 12.54 ppg.. there best 3 years are  2012 - 5.7 ppg.1887-  5.3 ppg. 2016-  4.3 ppg The 3 worst years are. 2001-  16.9 ppg. 1996-  18.0 ppg.  2005-  19.4 ppg.

What's crazy is 2005 was wos worst year defensively but still made it to the state semi finals where Wimberley scored 52 points the most ever given up in school history. They went that far cause deon Beasley and earl Thomas was lighting it up on offense that year.

You can’t argue with success. IMO they should have just left the defense alone. The numbers speak for themselves.

The success is undeniable. Less than 2 scores per game for our history and more shut outs than losses, but that defensive scheme had to go? Are we trying to continue the tradition or destroy it?

One would think H should know the 50, and our dominance with it, from 6 years of being at WOS under CT. Now this DC and his brother the Co-DC come in and do their own thing. I hear so many other coaches today say they let the assistants/Coordinator take care of things.

    • Well Mustang fans it's time for my annual end of season rant. I've had so much company up here on the soapbox that I may have to start charging rent. After 3 years I don't think anything needs to be said. We all know what's wrong. We all know why. So what's the decision at the next board meeting? IMO, there's been enough imaginary success for the board to rubber stamp the Superintendent's vision for our future student athletes. #make every second count Due to soft scheduling and a weaker than normal district. The luck of knocking off 2 ranked opponents early when they were not healthy or still trying to figure it out. Also led to a premature ranking and a hollow DCTF weekly award. The 2 late season losses vs ranked teams proves what we know has been the biggest problem.  Football 19-15 .559 Baseball 9-35 .205 Basketball 19-35 .352 GBB 11-29 .275 Softball 1-22 .043 Volleyball 0-38 .000 Overall 59-174 .253   For anyone living in the district, I ask that you contact you're elected board members publicly and privately. Don't let them think this is exceptable. Be the solution to the equation. Not the divisor. This starts at the top and falls heavily upon those walking the halls. They deserve better.
    • I don't think it's 6-5 maybe 4-3
    • Sounds like a good idea, and something’s been needed for a long time. I know—where my kids & grandkids live now (DFW area)—schools are like revolving doors for athletic purposes. I don’t think the DPISD & LPISD option enrollment are anywhere like that. I assume it’s pretty above board since it was an arrangement apparently agreed to also by the state. I do know some kids that went to LPISD elementary schools in DP chose to go to DPHS because of the district rating. (Of course, at the time, DPISD and DP in general wasn’t very racially mixed like La Porte.) LPISD has a high number of kids on assistance programs compared to DP. Say what you will, it does make it more difficult for educational purposes and scores can reflect as much. LPISD is still rated high even with that challenge. Some of the kids that chose DPHS were very solid athletes that I’m sure LP would love to have had attend LPHS. Of course, part of the big rivalry between DP & LP has always been because DP ‘looked down’ on LP even though we worked side-by-side. Now that Shell DP refinery has been sold to PEMEX, DP is changing. Some aren’t happy about it. Some of us in LP are kinda tickled about it after the history.
    • Got my hotel booked...an hour away. They're having some kind of Light festival, so busy times in Nat.
    • payton missed dunk , and they go get a layup that play hurt
