KFDM COOP Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Second Baptist captures TAPPS 5A titleFORT WORTH — For the second time in five years, the Second Baptist Eagles have won the TAPPS 5A state volleyball championship.The Eagles defeated Denton Liberty Christian 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21 on Saturday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum."This was a really sweet victory because we weren't supposed to be the team that won this year," Second Baptist coach Sue Berg said. "We didn't even win our district."The loss to Fort Bend Baptist in the district tournament might have been the best thing for the Eagles, though."It was a wake-up call and we made a lot of improvements," Berg said.The Eagles also won the state championship in 2003 over Lutheran South. That year, Second Baptist was the favorite."This year is a little sweeter because we had to work so hard for it," Berg said.Alvin Living Stones beat Ennis St. John in four games (25-12, 21-25, 25-12, 25-16) to claim the TAPPS 1A state crown.Conroe Covenant lost to Bulverde Bracken Christian in four games (25-18, 23-25, 25-15, 25-13) in the TAPPS 2A final match.[email protected]
