Seahawks travel to Carthage for Monday game vs. Panola College

The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men's basketball team will be in

Carthage on Monday for a 7 p.m. game against another Division I team from

Region XIV, the Panola College Ponies.

Lamar State (3-2), a Division III school, got its first-ever victory

over a Region XIV team this past Saturday, when the Seahawks posted a 78-72

overtime win against Angelina College at the Carl Parker Center in Port

Arthur.

Four LSC-PA players hit in double figures, with Vidor-ex freshman

forward George Williamson leading the way with 24 points and nine rebounds

Sophomore guard Noah Cole, another ex-Pirate, added 16. Freshman

forwards Seth Harley and Sam Stelly each had 10 points for the Seahawks.

Lamar State coach Don Bryson is pleased with his team's performance.

"We've got a bunch of kids who are working hard and they're getting

better defensively," he said. "Everybody is contributing and we're getting

more inside scoring, which we didn't have in past years."

The Seahawks are 0-4 against Panola since their first meeting in

2004. That record includes Lamar State's worst defeat, a 102-39 shellacking

in Carthage in 2005.

The Ponies (2-0) finished last in Region XIV in 2007, going 11-19

overall and 3-19 in conference play.

The Seahawks take on another Division I team on Wednesday, when they

travel to Pasadena to play San Jacinto College.

Lamar State returns to the Carl Parker Center for Homecoming Night

on Saturday, Nov. 17, for a rematch with Lee College, which beat the

Seahawks 95-74 on Nov. 3.
