Englebert Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 Why do you think property taxes are so high? Is it because we have to pay for _____________ (fill in the blank). Take as much space and time as you need to articulate your position of anger. Please expound on your use of "hillbilly school districts" when spewing your vitriol. Name some of those schools you think are syphoning too much money so we can compare with the "non-hillbilly schools". Hagar 1 Quote
Hagar Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 If you think Income Taxes magically disappear once you retire you’re in for a big surprise. Uncle Sammy ain’t letting you off. Uncle Sam has it all figured out. I’ve been retired 7 years and very raise I’ve gotten in Social Security has been negated by a larger increase in Medicaid. And yes, the IRS still manages to get their share also. It’s confusing - they return some of my SS money to me, then Tax back XX amount. Kind of like when you pass GO in Monopoly and get $200, but land on Income Tax which cost you the $200. Seems there would be an easier way to give me the shaft, lol. Quote

It’s out of control local spending, which they in turn blame on “unfunded state mandates” which apparently include new cars/equipment for everybody, buildings purchase to tear down, buses nobody rides, monuments, parks, concert venues, more administrative salaries, turf fields, video score boards, and on and on and on. As far as your taxes at 65, you’ll get a healthy break on your homestead AND the right to defer payment on your homestead if you wish… the balances will pile up and ultimately be due. If you’re paying $15k a year in property taxes, I can only assume that you’re using some of that property to earn income… in that case I don’t really feel sorry about your tax bill. On the other hand, if you’ve invested approximately 3 million dollars into property that ISN’T yielding any income, but still costing you $15k a year in taxes, plus whatever else you spend to maintain it, that’s just a bad business decision on your part and I don’t feel sorry for you this time either. You should have just parked that dough in a mutual fund. No property taxes and no income taxes unless you’re withdrawing funds Quote

I kinda figured you were a renter in CaneyHead. Are you just now figuring out that you are just renting your property from the county? You never really own it. 🙄 Inflation is taxation without legislation. Artificially inflated housing prices drives up taxes. It’s legalized theft. Just a big Ponzi scheme. We should have a housing bubble burst in the near future imo. 5GallonBucket 1 Quote
