Lumberton will be tough for sure, but the team LCM does not match up well against is vidor...in previous yrs, the defense has not been disciplined enough to slow down that slot t.... hopefully this year is different!

Bear02, You seem to have good insight on these programs and I agree with you. Looks like all 3 teams scheduled a few tough pre-district matchups to get them ready.

I repeat, this District will be very tough this year, and any of 4 teams could win District, but here’s the deal:

Vidor won the District last year.  Has a good nucleus of returning starters, and I’m pretty sure the JV went undefeated.  How anyone could leave them out of the discussion for repeating is beyond me.

And since the District will send 4 quality teams to the playoffs, perhaps the District of Doom (9-4A-D1) won’t have the cakewalk they’ve had in many year past.

Anyone following 10-4A-D1 this year, cinch up your belts and hand your false teeth to someone, dad gum it’s going to be a bull ride. 😂

Vidor Image result for vidor pirates

Vidor had a strong regular season, but drew a tough 1st rd.  matchup and had its postseason end early. The Pirates once again will challenge for the district title as their Slot-T offense has plenty of options in the backfield with RBs Watson, Gall (879 yards, 6 TDs rushing) and talented sophomore Fontenot. Watson (82 tackles, 8 sacks) will lead the defense along with LB Odom (117 tackles), who is a returning first-team all-district selection.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville Image result for lcm bears

The Bears were one of the state’s surprise stories in 2022, advancing to the regional finals under first-year head coach Eric Peevey. The question now is what will the Bears do for an encore? RB/CB Morris (1,811 yards, 22 TDs rushing; 36-434, 2 TDs receiving; 38 tackles, 6 INTs) is one of the top players in Southeast Texas and is the catalyst for the Bears. DE Washington (64 tackles, 21 TFL, 9 sacks) is a monster on the defensive line who holds multiple FBS offers, while DE Riley (64 tackles, 8 TFL, 4 sacks) is expecting a breakout season on the other side.

Huffman See the source image

After two very strong seasons, Huffman has a lot of holes to fill with just three starters back on each side of the ball. New head coach Joey Buchta has WR/CB Tyler Wilkins (39-603, 10 TDs receiving; 32 tackles, 8 INTs) coming back & is a force on both sides of the ball, also was an all-state selection on defense. The Falcons will have one of the best kickers in 4A with the return of Jonathan Klepetko, who could be a weapon in close games. The big question mark for Huffman will be settling on a QB, where Tyson Woodland and Justin Evans will compete for the job.

How could they not list RB Powell who had a dozen rushing TD’s last year and nearly 1000 yds as an impact player?

Is there a RB named Powell at Lumberton? Or is it a mistake on the RB name who had the 12 TD's last year? Ik Ward was a beast at RB last year.

You're right it is Ward and he is a beast. Look for him to do really good things this year and next.

Double wow.  Three teams in top ten?  That’s impressive, even if the source is questionable.  And no surprise, three teams from 9-4A-1.  Be a couple of good teams knocked out in Bi-District.  Really proud of this District.  It’s gone from relative obscurity to a potential powerhouse.  We’ll know more on Saturday, 8/27.

First week:

Huffman vs Spring Legacy
LCM vs Hardin-Jefferson
Livingston vs Houston Episcopal
Lumberton vs Hamshire-Fannett
Splendora vs Cleveland
