Razor Posted August 3, 2022 Report Posted August 3, 2022 I guess it's natural for naysayers to always point to coaching first when things don't go as they want...teams and talent change from year to year...it has always amazed how closely a coaches success is tied to the quality of his talent pool...there seems to be a pretty close relationship there...to me, this is the same coaching staff that tremendously overachieved just season before last by making round 3 with a team that not many felt could go that far...things didn't go the way fans liked last year, so now "we ain't happy"...the coaches are the same, and for my money, I will take Nederland's staff any day of the week...to me, they have proven to get the most out of what they have and more importantly, do a good job of developing young men (isn't that their most important job?) I don't know too much about this year's team...sounds like they might be young and I know they have had some losses that have, from what little I know, have very little to do with football or the football program...brings me back to a young Nederland team in 2010 that started and played a bunch of sophomores due to injuries, etc...that team improved as the year went on, rode some senior leadership along with those youngsters and managed a decent, playoff season...in 2011 and 2012, that group was dominant and won back to back district titles without losing a district game and going 3 and 4 rounds deep respectively, with the 2012 team ranked in the Top 10 most of the season and beating #1 ranked Pearland Dawson...let's let this young group develop and improve this year, see what they can do, and then hope for bigger and better things as they gain experience and confidence...I have all the faith in the world that this coaching staff will get every ounce they can out of them, this year and beyond A BUC 77 1 Quote

Bobby August had the same talent pool available to him as Larry Neauman had. At PNG, Ken Watson had the same talent pool as Doug Ethridge had available. In the 6 years Watson was the HC, he only made the playoffs 1 time and lost in the first round. His last three years he had one of the best running backs in Texas, "The Jet". Should have made a run at the State Title. My opinion. Everyone knows the success Ethridge had. The previous coach at Carthage had the same talent pool available as Surratt has. I could keep going. As I always say: There's no future in consistently blaming the kids and giving the coach a pass. If you want a good program, then you find the best coach available. And if that doesn't work out then you keep looking and hope you eventually hit the jackpot like Aledo, Carthage and others have. Quote

You sound like MSNBC trying to spin a story... lol..heck, Etheridge's last year coaching at Round Rock, he was 2-8...did he suddenly become a subpar coach or were the circumstances different??? my guess is, the man was still one hell of a football coach Quote
spidersal Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Last season was a tough one. The season showed a lack of talent along with poor coaching. The 4 games that really showed me this were Silsbee, Texas City, Barber’s Hill, and KP Hopefully this season the talent level will be better along with the coaching. If not, they may only win 3 games I have said it before and I will say it again, with 4 teams making the playoffs each year, Nederland should make the playoffs every year! Quote

Ryder inherits an experienced squad that graduated just eight players from a year ago, so there is some positive momentum. RB/LB Stroud (78 tackles) is a three-year starter and kick-blocking specialist who blocked four kicks a year ago. WR/DB Thompson and OL/DL Arcidiacono are a pair of four-year starters who bring plenty of experience to the table for Sante Fe. RB/LB Leal (81 tackles) had a big sophomore season, while OL Weaver started all 10 games up front as a sophomore. DB Pahkala (18 tackles) emerged late in his freshman season and will be a key contributor in the Indians secondary. Past Seasons 2018- 5-6 2019- 2-8 2020- 0-10 Willowridge Eagles This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Coach Kendron Penson Lettermen 20 Starters Returning Offense- 6 Defense- 8. 2021-Overall Record- 4-5, 4-4 District Record Impact Players WR Travis Willis (5-9, 155, 4.5) WR Marxquise Hayes (5-10, 155, 4.6) OL Issac Orellana (6-4, 290) WR Anthony Momon-Lattimore (6-2, 195, 4.6) RB/LB Tulio Nunez (5-9, 170, 4.6) QB Blaize Covington (6-4, 205, 4.7) Key Prospects DE Steven Brantley (6-1, 245) QB/DB Kendron Penson, Jr. (5-10, 170, 4.6) DL Royce Wilson (6-0, 200) TE Quentin Iles WR Rome Jackson DE Christian McCardell. New head coach Kendron Penson arrives at WIllowridge after spending the past few seasons as an assistant at Fort Bend Hightower. He inherits an experienced squad that had a disappointing 2021 season that missed out on the playoffs. There are two experienced QBs on the roster in Covington (862 yards, 10 TDs passing) and Hightower transfer Penson Jr. (2,111 yards, 20 TDs passing; 5 TDs rushing). WR Hayes (19-315, 5 TDs receiving) and WR Willis will lead a dynamic group of receivers, Hayes also led the district in interceptions in 2021. The defense is full of experience and young talent led by junior DE Brantley and sophomore DL Wilson. Penson says the biggest concern heading into 2022 will be the offensive line, which graduated four starters. Past Seasons 2018- 7-4 2019- 7-4 2020- 7-3 It just dawned on me that FB Willowridge’s new coach is also the dad of FB Hightower’s stud sophomore qb from last year’s 11-3 regional final squad. He moved to FBW with his dad when he got the head coaching job this past April. The only teams in this district that can really “out-athlete” FBW are FB Marshall and Texas City. IDK what kind of coach his dad will be but Kendron Penson is an absolute game changer in district with teams like Ned, PNG, Dayton and FBW packed as close together as they are personnel wise. Kid threw for just shy of 2,500 yards in a district with Manvel, Paetow, Angleton and Foster. This may be a situation like Jalen Hurts dad had at Channelview with his older brother Averion? I think the FBW games goes from a for sure win for Ned to a ? Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote
