Why do these ADs try to make hero hires? An O Line coach from New York? If they passed on Barbay for this guy O’Malley needs to be fired immediately. I understand Lamar isn’t the most enticing job, but we could’ve done better. This will be no different than Morgan.

Lamar would be a step down from where he is at. Barbay did not interview.

The unfortunate truth is that coming to Lamar would be potentially career killing for Barbay, who is a star on the rise in the coaching ranks…he will get his HC opportunity based on his success and it will be better than Lamar…think about what a couple of 1-10 seasons on the resume would do for Barbay, who is a star on the rise…until Lamar proves it will support its athletic programs, any coach coming here is taking a serious risk….how many HC calls do you figure Coach Morgan will get going forward??

Kind of where I fall.  I hope this guy is a home run hire.  I also hope Damon got some bad information because that’s hard to fathom otherwise.

Pretty much someone put Lamar’s AD in contact with an Alabama assistant that was willing to take the HC job. Saban and O’Brien tried calling O’Malley for a recommendation and he ignored their calls.

If he puts together a good staff this might be a good hire down the line. We'll see. I hope he hires a staff with Texas ties that's well connected with alot of the top HS programs in the state.

The issue is with these ADs with no pulse on the area or Texas football in general. They don’t know better.

If what Damon West is saying on Fbook is true, then Lamar AD made a mistake ignoring Saban & not speaking to them or Coach Svoboda , imo

If there really was a chance to get someone with those qualities and local knowledge. Shame on those that overlooked him. Even if this was a stepping stone for him. It could've been a launch pad for the program.
