jdawg03 Posted September 9, 2022 Report Posted September 9, 2022 Hello everyone.. We have put into place a better way for us to keep scores! Every Friday Night (or Thursday/Saturday) individual game threads are posted which give us a space to discuss the ongoing games and to post game and score updates. We now have a way for you to update the score on the title of the topic and on the scoreboard itself...See Scoreboard Here When you post a score update in the game thread--please post the score using this format (command)For a Game that's still in progress:!!score:visitor score/home score/quarter/minutes/seconds So Let's say Alvin (visiting team) was Trailing Beaumont United (home team) 24 to 7 with 6:32 left in the 3rd QuarterYou would post !!score:7/24/3/6/32 and that's going to update the scoreboard For a Game that's gone final: !!final:visitor score/home score Let's say Alvin (visiting team) was lost to Beaumont United (home team) 24 to 7 You would post !!final:7/24 This is a work in progress and we will be continuing to make this better in an effort to better serve you--the fans of sports in Southeast Texas! bullets13 Posted September 10, 2022 Report Posted September 10, 2022 Either it’s not working well or people haven’t figured it out yet. I think once it’s rolling it will be really good. JohnRuthDomergue 1 Quote
bullets13 Posted September 10, 2022 Report Posted September 10, 2022 Also, we have to make sure the home and away are correct. Currently shows the scores swapped in at least one game, and I’ve only looked on 3 threads. Quote
Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted September 10, 2022 Report Posted September 10, 2022 Some of these games showing FINAL are not FINAL. Quote

bullets13 Posted September 10, 2022 Report Posted September 10, 2022 I think it’ll be beneficial for people making updates to make two posts: the first with a regular update, and the second using the format provided. This serves two purposes: 1. If it doesn’t work, we still get the update. 2. If it doesn’t work or is incorrect, admins can edit and fix it. Quote

Give the score in a normal way and also in the algorithm way. Had a few very confused and have spoken out against it. bullets13 1 Quote

So I had no idea what the actual result was. Quote

I think this fix will address the issue of readability another example: https://www.setxsports.com/ip/topic/241204-jewett-leon-27-wortham-44-q4-1148-remaining-game-threadpost-updates-here/ AggiesAreWe 1 Quote
OC07 Posted September 10, 2022 Report Posted September 10, 2022 The new scoreboard sucks, just tell us the score. It's not that hard to type. Sorry, but being real. TXHORN_ET and Chester86 1 1 Quote

The motive behind this is to allow users to open up the football forum and literally be able to score down and see live scores in the title of the thread. That will be awesome. But clearly the site has some kinks to work out. Quote
AggiesAreWe Posted September 12, 2022 Report Posted September 12, 2022 Folks starting to see just how much Grad did here on Friday nights. You guys want to volunteer your time to update every thread and the scoreboard every Friday night, I imagine Jordan will be most welcome to the help. The new system has a few kinks to work out but this is a much better way. Silsbee92, DP#1FAN, bullets13 and 1 other 3 1 Quote

You want to spend three or four hours on here on friday nights updating and monitoring these simple posts that work pretty well? Or how about you go to the game you're interested in and update the score live for us? Because there are several folks who spend a good part of their friday evenings monitoring content, updating scores, changing titles to reflect finals, changing the big scoreboard, etc. etc. so that folks like yourself can log in, look at the one score you want to know about, make two posts criticizing the site, and then log out for a couple of days before you come back and do it again. This new system will take a little time to work out, but once it's up and running it will greatly reduce the manual work needed on the site, the vast majority of which is unpaid and done by folks volunteering their time to keep the site up and running. To type PAM 50 PNG 15 Works pretty well… Simple. There are two different methods we are speaking to. The method to which you refer is great for updating only the thread where someone has to click into it to see the score and if there's been a discussion, the score itself can get pushed to a different set of pages than what's currently being displayed. The new method is to be able to crowd source the work to systemically update the thread title, a centralized scoreboard, and also a database. We're trying to enhance the user experience for folks to see scores and get updates. As part of the feedback we're seeing, we've also put a system in place that can take the !!score: version and put it into a readable format within the same post, which should address one of the major flaws. You're encouraged to participate in either method but when just a few people outside the mods start inputting scores in the new fashion, the whole forum will see a huge benefit. bullets13 1 Quote
ScoreboardBot Posted September 16, 2022 Report Posted September 16, 2022 Fixes implemented this week: !!: and !!score: are the same command and achieve the same outcome minutes/seconds are no longer needed and won't be posted to the game thread title nor the aggregated scoreboard Minutes/seconds, if posted, will be added to the post h or H can be used as halftime, f or F can be used to indicate final in place of the quarter !!:28/10/f and !!final:28/10 are the same command now bullets13 and Mr. Buddy Garrity 2 Quote
bullets13 Posted September 17, 2022 Report Posted September 17, 2022 Now that people are getting the hang of this it’s nice being able to scroll down and see scores without having to open every thread. AggiesAreWe and Silsbee92 2 Quote
bullets13 Posted September 17, 2022 Report Posted September 17, 2022 One tip I’ve found: if you mess up and leave something out and it doesn’t update the score, you need to delete and try again. For instance earlier I forgot the !!, but when I edited it and added them, the system still didn’t recognize it. I deleted it and did it again and it updated. WOSdrummer99 1 Quote
