RATING THE TOP CLASSES

Clark Francis, Hoopscooponline.com

1. UCLA:

It's a close call, but the Bruins have the best class with Malcolm Lee and Jrue Holiday. Jerime Anderson ensures the backcourt will be deep and talented for a long time.

2. Louisville:

The strength of this class is the two inside players 6-8 Samardo Samuels and Terrence Jennings.

3. (tie) Florida:

The defending national champions finished with the No. 3 recruiting class last spring and now check in with five players in Hoop Scoop's top 100, including 6-10 Eloy Vargas.

3. (tie) Kansas:

Tremendous versatility with 6-5 Mario Little, the No. 1 junior college player (Chipola, Fla.). The Jayhawks also have a big-time scorer in Travis Releford and an old-fashioned blue-collar power forward in 6-8 Quintrell Thomas.

5. Arizona:

Just as important as 6-1 Brandon Jennings, Hoop Scoop's No. 1 senior, the Wildcats address immediate inside needs with 6-7 Emmanuel Negedu and 7-0 Jeff Withey.

6. Ohio State:

There is no Greg Oden or Kosta Koufas in this class, but William Buford, 7-1 B.J. Mullens, Anthony Crater and Walter Offutt are all ranked in the top 70 and should be able contribute immediately.

7. Oregon:

Ducks assistant coach Kenny Payne should get a raise after going into the Windy City and beating all of the Big Ten and Big East schools that were recruiting 6-9 Michael Dunigan from Farragut and 6-8 Josh Crittle and 6-5 Matt Humphrey from Hales Franciscan.

8. Southern California:

After having last year's No. 1 class, the Trojans bounce back with 6-5 Demar Derozan, Hoop Scoop's No. 3 senior, and 5-11 Donte Smith, one of the best-kept secrets in the junior college ranks.

9. Florida State:

The addition of 6-8 Chris Singleton, along with Luke Loucks,PierreJordan and Deividas Dulkys, pushes the Seminoles into the top 10.

10. LSU:

Three highly touted inside players -- 6-11 J'Mison Morgan, 6-8 Storm Warren and 6-6 Delwan Graham -- make this a great class.

Jerry Meyer, Rivals.com

1. Wake Forest:

Al Farouq Aminu, Tony Woods and Ty Walker are three five-star frontline players who can play together.

2. UCLA:

Holiday is the most polished guard prospect in the 2008 class. He is joined by four-star prospects Anderson, Lee and Drew Gordon.

3. Louisville:

Samuels will be a dominant low-post player, while Jennings might be 2008's most athletic big man.

4. Georgetown:

The Hoyas land No. 1 prospect Greg Monroe to go along with four-star prospects Chris Braswell, Henry Sims and Jason Clark.

5. Florida:

Five-star big men Vargas and Kenny Kadji lead a five-man class with ranked prospects Allan Chaney, Erving Walker and Ray Shipman.

6. Ohio State:

Another dominant 7-footer is headed to Columbus in Mullens. Buford provides outside scoring punch.

7. Arizona:

The dynamic Jennings leads this four-man class. Big men Negedu and Withey are a great fit.

8. Kansas:

Little joins four-star prospects Releford and twins Marcus and Markieff Morris.

9. North Carolina:

The Tar Heels reload with five-star big men Ed Davis and Tyler Zeller.

10. Florida State:

Singleton's signature pushes FSU into the top 10. He is joined by fellow four-star prospect Xavier Gibson.

Good stuff there but I'm not a fan of hoopscooponline.com. Those guys rank kids in 5th grade. There is no way that can be accurate.
