forREALtho
Definitely Panthers gonna drop 50 or 60. Hornets letting Barrier get away, both coach and player, was not a smart move for them. Could of been a game changer for the boys athletic program. That’s on them. Just not a smart move. 2wedge and APanthers 1

What did they need to do to keep them though? Increase salary? Does Hardin have the ability to provide extra resources, if that's what the coach wanted? What are the expectations at Hardin for success, and what are the ambitions? So many small country towns are in denial about what their program should be. Uh...I dont think Barrier ever had intentions of staying at the dump formally known as Hardin. Surely like any smart coach in the history of football, he wanted his child to have success at the HS level, so that would prepare him for the collegiate level. I think you are missing the big picture "forealtho".

I shouldn't say dump. Lets call it "challenged" and most definitely the football program. The girls side does very well for itself.

So many small country towns are in denial about what their program should be. They had a chance to keep him 1 or 2 more years and never know what happens after that. And Hardin has that ability. As for the boys athletic program, I don’t think they have ambitions and expectations or they would of kept them there. No denial here and not my program. Who knows what happens after that. That age group was pretty good. Of course there are programs playing at higher levels he could move to but I believe he gonna have success at whatever school he chooses. History shows us that the football program is normally a dump.. what was said was, "The dump formally known as Hardin". I was being sarcastic.. it's still known as Hardin is what I meant. I didn't say that it was a dump before.. even though it can be argued that the football program could certainly have been considered that. I have no idea whether or not the school district is a dump, as I've never looked into the things that might consider it so.

Hopefully it's at least a good district. The boys athletic program as a whole (but especially football) seems to struggle more often than not. From what I have gathered, it was a question of resourcing the program in the way that could set them up for success in the future. Barrier needed more assistants in order to elevate the program from a coaching perspective. Keep in mind, Barrier wasn't even the AD at Hardin, just the HFC. That is another issue and made it extremely easy for him to leave to be an assistant in another district. It wasn't like he was walking away from an administrators salary to take an assistant role at Anahuac. The younger Barrier is a generational talent and would've been the best player Hardin football had ever seen, and his dad is a damn good coach also. I am not sure anything would've been able to keep them there, but Hardin didn't even try. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Hardin has too many hands in the cookie jar over there. Small town politics at it's finest. Board members and parents who are not realistic in their expectations. They let Anthony Morgan get out of the gate years ago, and Barrier will be the next one they will regret for decades. APanthers

It seems like they are becoming or have become quite effective at their strategy to send good people down the road. Kudos, Hardin. I don't know how I'm just now seeing this considering Anahuac just beat Hardin last week, but this....you know nothing. The only thing I agree with is that Coach Barrier is a good coach and the small town politics stuff (you find that everywhere...even at Anahuac).
