Homerun Superstar Barry Bonds Indicted on Perjury, Obstruction of Justice Charge

Recommended Posts

I'm not a huge bonds fan, but really?  There is no way to estimate how many players used steroids or other performance enhancers over the past ten years, but i would say that 25% is a VERY safe estimate.  I'm not sure why everyone has such a hard-on for getting Barry.  I realize he's set the alltime record, and maybe that's upset some old white congressmen somewhere (even though it was already held by an African American), but who really cares?  He is undoubtedly the best steroid-using player in the steroid era.  Let it go and move on.  I just can't believe that a player is going to be charged for a crime when he wasn't telling the truth about using products that probably weren't even banned yet when he used them.

Reread what you wrote.  He lied.  It doesn't matter if a substance was banned or not. He isn't being indicted on using steroids, he is being charged with perjury.

Big bad Barry is going to the big house!! I won't lose much sleep over that!

I'm not a Barry-hater, but come-on. You up your home run production by 200 % AFTER you turn 40!!

But you not using the roids??

??? ??? ??? ???

He just got a lot better eyes at 40+ and could see the ball better.

He cheated any way that you look at it. Then it looks like he is a felon. Why would he lie about using steroids? It's easy, to make it look like he was going to legitimately get a record on talent, not on the amount of drugs that he was using. He knew that his career would be over once he admitted to using steroids.

To say that he is better than Hank Aaron or Babe Ruth is a lie and he should not go into the records books as such. I don't care what other players are doing now, you can bet that Hank or Babe didn't pad their stats with steroids.

I don't doubt that he cheated, and i don't doubt that he lied.  The problem that i have is that someone might go to jail for lying about cheating in A GAME!  Who cares?  Honestly.  If this can be proven, then i guess it would be alright to ban him from baseball (even though a huge portion of the players were doing the same thing), but for this to lead to trying to put him in jail for a couple of decades seems absurd.  And as for his record being tainted, that's not that big of a deal to me either.  I'm sure many of his HR's came off of pitchers that were juicing, and there's no way that he's been on anything for the past few years.  He's still been hitting homers in a pitcher-friendly park, even though he's almost 90 and he's had injury trouble.  Now I'm not really trying to defend the guy.  He's a jerk, he's a cheater, he's a liar.  I think the thing that really bothers me is that he's being burned at the stake for this.  He's not a terrorist, or a murderer, or a rapist.  He simply cheated in a game, and he did it in a time where it was basically expected of the players to do so.
