With both high schools struggling to put a 1/2 decent product on the field in 6A why not combine the 2 schools for better results. Thoughts

So to be clear, your suggestion is that BISD, who’s district encompasses 153 sq miles, should spend tens of millions of dollars to either add on to or build a new school to house 4500 students together in order to field a better team in one sport?  Would you suggest buying the nonexistent land in the middle of Beaumont to do this so it’s only 15 minutes away from your major populations of kids, or just add on to one of the preexisting schools and force half of your population to commute 20 miles across town everyday?

153 square miles huh? Where did you get that number from?

The idea of creating one HS for the sake of a winning football team is ludicrous!!

I didn’t want to get pulled in this tired debate, buuuuuuut.

I think this goes with how the whole merger thing took place.  That and along with how many detractors say this and that about BISD…. Mismanaging money, blah blah blah, yada, yada, yada…. at the time of closing Central down, all 3 schools could’ve been merged which would have consolidated the funds.  Instead of spreading the salaries and resources over 3 campuses, you can only do it with one campus.  Probably would’ve improved academics as well, and also while improving the athletic program in Beaumont.  Due to the fact that this is a football message board, yea, people are talking about athletics, namely football.  But looking at it from and overal standpoint, combining the schools would’ve done EVERYONE good.  The detractors, supporters, kids, community, ect.

Buuuuuut, this is all water under the bridge since it has been established that there will just be two schools.  🤷🏾‍♂️

Where do you put the school? The west end Wandas aren’t sending their kids over to the pear orchard, and I don’t even want to talk about the very valid firestorm that would erupt if you start trying to bus kids of color 30 minutes across town to the west Brook campus, which is the only BISD property that could logistically support a high school with almost 5,000 kids.

You could make the former Ozen campus a 9th grade campus. Several one high school districts have that set up.

Not everyone is worried about hsfb, so if that is the primary reason, then no. Since we're talking about sports, where are all the kids that don't make the basketball roster supposed to play?

You look at something like Allen and I believe that was planned out in advance. Don't think that can work in Beaumont.

But I still repeat, the west end folks aren’t sending their kids across town to ozen, and where do you place the high school that doesn’t have half the district traveling all the way across town to go to school?

First of all, I am not a proponent of having one high school just for the purpose of athletics. But I was just making a point of how it could be done.

There are larger school districts than BISD in the state that have one high school and it's high school isn't necessarily centrally located. Allen ISD comes to mind.

Beaumont has social dynamics that would never allow it to work.

I know the comparison is being made between Allen and Beaumont to demonstrate one high school, but these communities could not be more different.

Yea, but look down the road in PA.  It took a while, but it looks like those communities are doing just fine with one high school…

Out adm was shrinking so it didn't make sense for 3 schools.  Truth be told, they wanted to close Austin in the early 90's.  A classmate of mine kept Austin open while he was on the school board.  PAM had 2800 and some change the 1st year so apples and oranges.  This is a silly topic

I concur.
