North Shore (13-0) vs. Atascocita (11-2) Region III-6A Division I

The highly-anticipated rematch has arrived. North Shore and Atascocita have been on a collision course since their regular-season meeting in District 21-6A action. The Mustangs won that game, 16-13, despite turning the ball over four times. North Shore is 6-2 against the Eagles since 2016, including five straight victories. The Mustangs earned a 44-20 triumph over Atascocita in the regional championship last season. North Shore has been stout on defense all season, and the unit surrendered an average of 153.6 yards per contest in the playoffs against Dobie, Dickinson and Cinco Ranch. The offense, meanwhile, is putting up 465 yards per outing. Rashaad Johnson had a huge game last week during a 49-21 victory over Cinco Ranch, rushing for 214 yards and two touchdowns. He has 18 rushing touchdowns for the season. Atascocita’s defense is holding opponents just under 200 yards per game during the playoffs. The offense is humming along, just like it has all season, producing 483.3 yards per outing. Quarterback Zion Brown and running back Tory Blaylock combined for 557 yards of total offense last week against Ridge Point.

Duncanville (12-0) vs. Westfield (12-1) Region II-6A Division I

Westfield passed a tough test against Waxahachie last Saturday, earning a 10-7 victory as senior quarterback P.J. Hatter connected with Dajohn Palomo for the go-ahead 57-yard touchdown pass with 2:59 remaining. The 10 points scored by Westfield in that game were by far a season-low. The Mustangs averaged 55 points over their previous 12 contests. Westfield is riding a 10-game winning streak since suffering its only loss of the season against North Shore and is back in the regional title game for the first time since 2019. Hatter has been a major part of that success, accounting for 3,374 total yards and 52 touchdowns. Westfield was eliminated from the 2020 playoffs by Duncanville in the most recent meeting between the programs. That was a 56-0 loss for the Mustangs against a Panthers squad that lost to Southlake Carroll in the state semifinals. This year’s Duncanville team is ranked No. 8 in the country by USA Today and has outscored its opponents 558-114. The Panthers have been dominant in the playoffs with a margin of 150-16. That included a 35-3 victory against The Woodlands last week.

Katy (13-0) vs. C.E. King (9-4) Region III-6A Division II

Katy has reached the regional championship game for the third consecutive season and is making its eighth appearance over the past decade. The Tigers have been dominant in the playoffs thus far, beating Clements, Memorial and Summer Creek by a combined score of 156-28. Senior running back Seth Davis is just 15 yards from recording his second consecutive 2,000-yard season. He is averaging 10.8 yards per carry and has scored 26 touchdowns. Fellow senior Dallas Glass is also enjoying a standout campaign, rushing for 1,264 yards and 22 scores. The Tigers have rushed for more than 4,500 yards altogether this season. C.E. King also likes to run the ball, and they, too, are quite good at it. Senior running back Keith Willis piled up 198 yards and three touchdowns during a 38-21 victory over Hightower last week. He has rushed for 547 yards and 12 touchdowns in the playoffs alone and has 1,488 yards and 31 scores for the season. C.E. King is playing in the fourth round for the first time in program history. The Panthers are 0-1 against Katy after losing 41-24 against the Tigers in the regional semifinals last season.

 of a previously undefeated Lake Creek team. Senior quarterback Jordon Davis was outstanding in that contest, completing 20-of-21 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for 115 yards and two scores. Davis has accounted for 3,208 yards of total offense and 43 touchdowns this year.  in District 9-5A action against Port Neches-Groves on Sept. 24. Marshall jumped out to a 21-0 lead in that game and never looked back. The Buffs are 4-0 against PNG since 2018 and knocked the Indians out of the playoffs in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Now they have a chance to do that again under the bright lights of Galena Park ISD Stadium. Since its loss to Marshall, PNG has rattled off nine consecutive victories, including a 38-28 triumph against Brenham last week. The Indians are hoping to break through to the state semifinals for the first time since 1999.

 

Columbus (12-1) vs. Franklin (13-0) Region III-3A Division I

Columbus was tested in the first round of the playoffs against Lorena before pulling out a 24-21 victory. It’s been smooth sailing for the Cardinals since then, however, with blowout wins against Diboll and Cameron Yoe. Columbus has won five consecutive games since suffering its only loss of the season against Hitchcock. The Cardinals have outscored their opponents 543-156 this season and are playing for a regional championship for the third time since 2019. That was the last time the program broke through to the state semifinals as well. Columbus will certainly be tested this week against a Franklin team averaging nearly 50 points per game. The Lions won the Class 3A Division II state championship last season with a 16-0 record and are riding a 29-game winning streak. Franklin has been dominant in the playoffs, beating Hallettsville, Anahuac and Hitchcock by a combined score of 118-32. The Lions are playing in the regional championship for the third consecutive season and are making their sixth appearance since 2012.
