Thought a write up on this game might be fun, so here we go.

Silsbee (13-0)

Points For: 595 (45.8 ppg)

Points Against: 178 (13.7 ppg)

Combined Record of Opponents: 60-84

Questionable Games: Nederland (2-8 record) won by 8 Week 2*; Jasper (7-4 record) won by 3 Week 10*

Cuero (12-1)

Points For: 646 (49.7 ppg)

Points Against: 162 (12.5 ppg)

Combined Record of Opponents: 75-75

Questionable Games: Calallen (13-0 record) lost by 16 Week 3*; Salado (3-8 record) won by 6 in overtime Week 11 (Round 1 Playoffs)*

Common Opponents:

Smithville – Silsbee won 34-0 Week 12 (Round 2 Playoffs)*; Cuero won 61-16 Week 9*

Hamshire-Fannett – Silsbee won 35-28 Week 8*; Cuero won 39-14 Week 13 (Round 3 Playoffs)*

*For reference I count the first week of the season as week 0.

Season Summary:

Silsbee has pretty much been rolling all season with only two close games.  Cuero took the early season loss to a very good Calallen team (4A Div 1) that is playing for their respective region championship this week.

Playoff Summary:

Silsbee has yet to be tested in the playoffs blowing out Columbia, Smithville, and Madisonville.  Cuero had what appears to be a wake-up call in round 1 of the playoffs by barely getting past a 3-8 Salado team in overtime as they have come alive since blowing out Sealy and Hamshire-Fannett.

Game Thoughts:

Looks like this should be a great game on paper.  Both teams have very good offenses that will put up points, but also have defenses that will make stops.  Likely the team that can execute with the fewest mistakes will win.  Some match ups allow for some mistakes and you will be fine, but this game wont.  Fun side note, Calpreps has Cuero winning 34-31.  I can agree with a score in that range for the teams, but which one has more at the end of the game seems to be a complete toss up.

Not a fan of either team, just a fan of TX HS FB

Here is an interesting note since everyone wants to talk about Schedules. Lets throw away the regular season because lets face it that really don't matter now, Lots of people are talking smack on Silsbee has a weak regular season schedule and people are saying the same thing about Cuero so lets talk about the play-offs......... Silsbee has scored 128 points and only given up 31 points. Cuero has scored 93 points and given up 39 points. I mean the playoff is the only thing that matters at this point huh ?

AggiesAreWe your prediction here lol. Not sure how I commented on the other thread. How do you see this game playing out?

I got Silsbee by 6.

Have to shut down their ground game. Force them in 3rd and long to where they have to throw.

Offensively, take advantage of play action. Also, don't have to look for the big play but just control the game with the short passing game.

Does Cuero have a passing offense?  How about their passing defense?

Yes.they will spread u out and throw short.but, this game is all abt the running games.silsbee want just stop them !! Just need to control them limiting them possessions.and when Silsbee has the ball don't get cute!! Just take those 2 and 3 yds. With both of those backs.all it does is take some of the action off Miller and cartwright.so,they want get doubled as much.#1 Miller is the best player left in 4a.!! I didn't say best team.hes the best player.so, if he gets that many one on one against anyone.ill take him against anybody.he is that gud for a jr.

If Cuero coaches are worth anything,  they will double team Miller. Silsbee will have to be disciplined and patient in their drives. Can't rely on 70 yd TDs to Miller. Need other players  to man up if Silsbee wants to make it to State. But this is the team to do it, imo.  If silsbee does these things and wins the turnover battle,  they have a shot to go all the way.

What surprised me was the 60-84 combined record of opponent 🥴

That stat is meaningless. Playing Nederland with a losing record is not the same as playing a 4A D2 team with a losing record. You can throw all that junk,  including common opponents,  out the window.  It means absolutely nothing.

Cartwright has come on really strong for Silsbee these past few games. The Tigers don't need Miller to do everything.

As far as records go, who cares. All that matters is who plays better on Friday. Doesn't matter if you barely won against halfway decent teams early in the year or not.

Cuero ISD is supposed to be steaming the game for those who can't make it.

Unless it's faculty and students with permission from Texan Live/UIL. (Like our broadcasts are from MHS)

I seen the Cuero link yesterday so apparently they got permission earlier in the day??

    • I have no issue with that however…. Rick Perry, although seemingly not really popular even with Republicans, was almost impossible to beat. The Texas conservatives just needed that tough, real conservative with an already popular voting base. Someone that has been elected to both Texas state office and federal office.  Boom! In 2010 in steps Kay Bailey Hutchison, a popular sitting US Senator and former Texas Treasurer. So she has been elected, statewide in both a state political position and nationally as a senator. A Rasmussen poll in 2009 showed Hutchison with a 40% to 38% lead over Perry. She had high profile endorsements as did Perry. Hutchison was endorsed by the likes of G H W Bush, Nolan Ryan, Roger Staubach, etc. If people are actually going to listen to endorsements, those are some fairly well thought of people in Texas. Primary day was between Perry, Hutchison and Debra Medina. Hutchison was beaten by Perry 51% to 30% and he got enough votes to avoid a runoff. Obviously, that has no bearing on today. It does show that just because a person is very popular and already elected to national office from Texas such as Kay Bailey Hutchison, it does not ensure a good showing in the polls against an incumbent. It will be interesting for sure.
    • WOW what a game. just got home, I'm gonna sleep with a big smile all night. PNG QB passes were spot on tonight, lil #17 freshman receiver had huge catches at critical times in the game. # 44 had a couple of huge catches including the 'jump pass' on 4th down for a touchdown.  #4 made big plays at key times on both sides of the ball, he is a beast. #11 played his usual consistent game with big time catches and a couple of good punts and a good job of just falling on a bobbled kick reception. #27 probably had 125 yards or so rushing. The defensive backs did a good job, bending but not breaking including the interception in the end zone. I thought the TH coaches messed up not trying to score with the high power players they have when they got the fumble right before half with 45 seconds or so on the clock and 3 TO left, if they would have scored then it would have broke our backs. I know it was 90 yards to go but they could cover the field in 3 or 4 plays. This is one of the most exciting wins in PNG's long history of exciting wins. Oh yeah kudos to the fans for getting in to the game at key times and in my Opinion making a big difference. 😂
    • To the 41 individuals that picked TH…..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Round 4 here we come!
