SOC would have had about 50 people if the game had been in Houston. Number of fans doesn’t control the game outcome, but it certainly didn’t hurt they were able to have a decent crowd since the game was played in their backyard.

Hard to know how much SOC would travel to Houston...only time they've really traveled was the 2021 state semifinals when they went 3.5 hours to Abilene on a Friday night....Shotwell has a large home side that seats about 7500 and SOC did fill that up

I don’t like all the state games being at one place. I know I’m probably in the minority in this situation and it’s great for the fans of high school football (not necessarily the fans of the two teams playing), but way too often the travel difference for the two teams it too big of a gap. I liked it when the two coaches decided. I think if each game was more central to the two teams playing more fans from those teams would be attending. I might be wrong, but that’s my belief.

I played for the Newton Eagles in 1974, want to know where we played the State game at, Wichita Falls. Quite a bit farther than AT&T

It was a short drive back. I will have to ask Lidney when I see him.

Given enough time, at some point a snowstorm will shut down Big D during championship week too.

It would put I think the venue would hold up.....this is just one example of the Alamodome just not being up to par as a facility right now

If it's not up to par, then why is it being used for state championships?

Honestly what other facility could guarantee the UIL back-to-back weekend availability and is large enough to host the event??

I understand. I don't think the little incident yesterday should take them out of the loop.

I think yesterday's incident just underscores one of many issues with the Alamodome when it comes to state football..its not a super well-taken care of facility, there's a lot of work that needs to be done....San Antonio will put the work into the facility in time for the 2025 Final Four...much like in 2018, but then they won't do anything after that and 4-5 yrs post Final Four you have a facility that has degraded...rinse and repeat w/San Antonio lol

Maybe now that they have an XFL team the city will do a better job maintaining the 'Dome between big events

I get that.

I agree it's the lesser of the three facilities.

AT&T was built to withstand almost everything. Its literally an engineering marvel. Alamodome obviously is not. Still should be rotating the location of the championships. NRG hasn't had any hail problems.

Who cares this much? 4 pages of nonsense.  If your team makes it to state or even if they don't, if you wanna go, pack up and roll.  If it's to far I'm sure the teams playing will understand if you're not there to tell them to block somebody or tackle somebody.

It's the off-season there's not much else to discuss football wise...

Well spoken. Which topics would you allow to be posted (if you were in charge of topics)?

Apparently your screen name speaks volumes...

Personally... I think that the state championship games should be at the best venue.  That's Cowboy's stadium... sorry.

Disclaimer: I perfectly understand the argument to rotate stadiums.  If my opinion mattered, though, I would suggest just rotating between Houston and DFW.  I like the idea of every classification cycle as well.  Every two year.

(that way Aledo and Carthage can have their kids win twice at NRG as well) lol

You are asking the wrong people this question. It is not about the fans, it’s about the kids. Their eyes light up when they walk into AT&T stadium where the big boys play. The kids have earned this, not the fans.

PS - and you are not going to change it in the near future.

Yepp, and I'd even wager that a lot of kids would choose to play at Kyle Field or DKR over the Alamodome or NRG.
